Task 1

Fourth Wall• Think of an activity that could be

performed on a wall, e.g. putting on make-up in a mirror, looking out of a window, painting a wall, etc.

• Walk on one by one and perform your activity using the "fourth" wall.

• The audience can then discuss how effective the performances were.

Task 1

Thought Tracking• Each group will perform in turn.

• Whilst the group is performing, the teacher can stop the action at any time and freeze the actors.

• At this point, any member of the audience can ask the character how they are feeling, what are their thoughts.

• If the audience member doesn't feel the actor is communicating that thought, they can give the actor advice on how they could communicate it better.

Task 2

Circles of attention

Task 3

Group directing• Your teacher will choose one group to

perform and then split the rest of the class into 3 or 4.

• Each group will take on the role of directors.

• The performing group will rehearse one of their scenes.

• At the end of the scene, each actor will go to an allocated group, who will direct their performance and make possible changes to enhance it.

• including one line of dialogue.

Task 5

Communicating intentions

• Remove the words of the text of each scene and mime, making the intention of the characters as clear as you possibly can.

• Repeat the scene, putting the dialogue back in, but keeping the intentions clear.

Task 6

Who's telling the truth?

Task 7• Get into pairs.• Tell each other a story (true or

false) about something that has happened to you, e.g. falling off a bike, winning a competition, going on the holiday of a lifetime.

• Decide on the best story and both practise telling the story.

Question improvisation • Sit in a circle as a class.• Two volunteers will stand

in the centre of the circle.• Improvise a scenario, but

you may only talk in questions. For example, your scene could be set in a hotel and person A wants a room.
