Situational Awareness Bulletin: Personal Safety
In consideration of previous events that have occurred this year, we all need to remain vigilant to
the potential for violent acts by domestic extremists across the Nation, particularly in state
capitals.
At the present time, there is no known specific threat to any personnel or facility in Region IV’s
area of operations. Out of an abundance of caution, we encourage all FEMA personnel to follow
the guidance provided by the Acting Secretary:
• Reduce your personal profile in public and refrain from displaying or wearing
anything that identifies you as a FEMA employee (badges or Personal Identity
Verification cards, clothing with agency insignia, etc.).
• Review your social media accounts and posts for any information that may be
exploited by an adversary.
• Monitor news media for current public information about threats or violent acts.
• If there is a protest activity where you are, avoid going outside. Secure and move away
from exterior windows.
• Do not attempt to walk through protest activity or confront protesters. Move away
from the area.
• Contact your local police and report any threats or acts of violence you observe or
experience. Be as descriptive as possible (exact location, number of persons involved,
descriptions of persons and vehicles, etc.).
Your personal safety and the safety of your family is paramount. If more specific information
becomes available, we will share it at the earliest opportunity. Meanwhile, please be extra
vigilant over the next week.
