When thinning out your garden instead of throw- ing the plants in the green waste dumpster, bring them to the general membership meeting to share with others. Just think, you can walk away with new plants and seedlings without spending a dime! Pete Nicolazzi will once again be providing small bags of seedlings that are native to Missouri. We are even plan- ning to raffle off two flowering trees! (No worries it’s free.) During the meeting you can expect to hear from our Alder- men Conway and Vollmer. (Isn’t the number one question Going to be, “… when is the bridge going to be done?!” ) The agenda will include an up- date about the Neighborhood Watch Program from one of our very own, Amy Choy. Elections for Board of Direc- tors will be held, too. All mem- bers currently paid through March 1st are able to vote. Paid members is listed on page 2 of this newsletter. Fi- nally, we are also pleased to welcome ON THE HILL HEALTH MART PHARMACY! Owners, Chris and Michael will share with us their plans. At- tending membership meetings is a great way to stay informed and a wonderful opportunity to get to know your neighbors. Light refreshments will be served. As a Neighborhood Association, safety within the neighborhood is of prime concern. We are cur- rently looking to expand our Neighborhood Watch Program and are in need of more block captains. (To date we have 9 block captions!) Report nuisance behaviors

Nuisance behavior can negatively impact residents and property owners of all surrounding properties. Nuisance behavior includes: public drinking; loitering in front yards, sidewalks, or streets; using, distributing, and/or selling illegal drugs; prostitution; playing music or conversing loud enough that your neighbors can hear you; and over crowding. If you witness any of these behaviors call 911. Tell the dispatcher if you are calling from a cell phone, so the call can be documented. State the address of the property where the problem is occurring. Once a sufficient number of calls are recorded on that property, the city can take action. For continu-ing problems, please call our office 772-6082.

Our association will hold it’s annual election for board members, at the April 24, 2017, general membership meeting. Each position is for a term of two years. Running for each position is:

NEW: Corresponding Secretary Jill Guyton Jill has lived with her husband, Austin, and their two children in the Southwest Garden Neighborhood for over 14 years. She is block captain for the 5400 block of Odell and the 5400 block of Arsenal. As block captain, she has compiled procedures and created logs for documentation. She coordinates block captain meetings for the 8 other block cap-tains working closely with the second district police. Jill comes to the Board well versed in board involve-ment as she has served on boards for other small and large financial institutions. Jill has a passion for the neighborhood and desires to work closely with Others to maintain the cultural diversity and heritage that the Southwest Garden Neighborhood is known for. As stated in the by laws, the vacancy created by the resignation of Elizabeth McNulty, 3rd Vice President will be filled by board appointment. (This appoint-ment will finish the second part of a two year term.) The Board of Directors has appointed Matt Vorst. Matt and his wife have been residents in the South-west Garden Neighborhood for over 15 years. We are excited to have Matt on board, because he brings expertise in marketing, graphic design and business building. Please welcome Matt at our next general membership meeting.

It is never too late or early to become a member of your neighborhood association. Cash or check can be paid in person on the night at our neighborhood meeting , or by mail to our office. We work with residents, businesses, elected representatives, city offices, and other community or-ganizations for a better neighborhood. Programs and volunteers beautify the community, improve public safety, fight crime, provide fun things to do, and keep you informed. Membership follows the calendar year and entitles you to invitations to special events, voting rights at general membership meetings; two votes per family membership; one vote each for an individual or business.
