MEMORIAL SERVICE
The Office for Violence Prevention and Victim Assistance is recruiting volunteers for our New Brunswick Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Response Teams. These team members provide support, information and referral at the time of a domestic violence or sexual assault crisis. There is a required fifty-three hour training class which will be held from May 31st to July 12th on Monday and Thursday evenings and two Saturdays. 2012 rainbow graduation
The most difficult times for the Rutgers community are those when a student passes away. Even within a large institution such as Rutgers, the community feels these losses deeply and enduringly as the weeks and months pass. There is a service to remember the valued members of the university family who have been lost this year. This will be a moment to reflect on their contributions to Rutgers and to help heal those who have been affected.
The Interfaith Chaplains Association at Rutgers University, with the support of the Office of the Dean of Students, will sponsor a memorial service on Wednesday, May 2nd from 12:00pm-1:00pm at the Graduate Student Lounge on College Avenue.
Family and friends, university faculty and staff, and members of the wider community are invited to join together in remembrance. Everyone is welcome, including those with no religious tradition or observance. For those who desire a faith connection, the gathering will include representatives of several religions. During the program there will be an opportunity for those present to share brief personal remembrances.
The Center for Social Justice and LGBT Communities is sponsoring the 2012 Rainbow Graduation Ceremony on Wednesday, May 2nd at the Douglass Campus Center, Trayes Hall.
The Rainbow Graduation Ceremony honors the achievements of Rutgers LGBT identified undergraduate and graduate students and acknowledges the challenges and triumphs experienced in their careers here at Rutgers University. We encourage all faculty and staff to come celebrate with us. Dinner will be provided. To RSVP, please e-mail [email protected].
COMMUNIQUE CONTEST In our last edition of the Communique, we asked: “How many nominations were received for the first ever Student Affairs Awards for Excellence?” Congratulations to Kevin Killen for being the first to respond with the correct answer of 55. Also, thank you to all of those who participated.
Marina Vineis and Cody Maculak, two of our Healthy Dining Team students, have received a top honor in the STEM category for Aresty Poster of the Year. There were over 400 research posters submitted to the Aresty Undergraduate Research Symposium so this is truly a remarkable accomplishment. The title of their research was "Assessing students' knowledge of dietary sources of calcium and Vitamin D, as well as, miscellaneous risk factors for future osteoporosis development."
Ji Lee received the CACP (Committee to Advance Our Common Purpose) Human Dignity Award on April 26th. Ji worked to make the University a productive place for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and question-ing Asian-American students on campus.
The Rutgers University Blood Drive Committee was honored by NY/NJ blood services for the greatest number of blood donations of NJ colleges and universities. They collected over 2,000 units in this academic year.

Keep a lookout for RUPA (Rutgers University Programming Association) driving around each campus in an ice cream truck giving away free ice cream to celebrate the end of the semester!
Rutgers Gardens is hosting its 20th Annual Spring Flower Fair which provides attendees with access to hard-to-find plants and plants that will thrive in a variety of conditions. Not only will your purchase enhance your garden, but it will also directly benefit the Rutgers Gardens Student Internship Program, which will provide hands-on experience to 12 Rutgers students this summer. The Gardens will be open to the public on:
