Anglesea and Winchelsea Community Bank® branches have made a potentially ‘life saving’ investment by helping present automatic defibrillators units for the nine schools in our local area. The defibrillator units provided by Defib your Club for Life are designed to significantly enhance the chance of survival of a person in the event of sudden cardiac arrest.

The Board felt very strongly about the program and was impressed with how a smiliar roll out worked in the western suburbs by Hobson’s Bay Community Financial Services which run Community Bank® branches in that area.

We hope to see more of these units strategically placed in the Winchelsea and Anglesea area as well as within the broader region. We hope that there isn’t a need to use the units, however if one of these units is used and does save a life, the program will be priceless.

Defib Your Club for Life was established by MICA paramedic Andrew White who, while off duty tried to save the life of Stephen, found that without timely access to a defibrillator he was unable to revive him. The appeal now raises funds to help groups have

access to automatic defibrillators to potentially save lives.

The nine local schools that have received the units are:

Anglesea Moriac

Aireys Inlet Inverleigh

Bellbrae Winchelsea

Birregurra Deans Marsh

Message from the Chairman It is pleasing to report your Community Bank® branches are continuing to deliver strong business results and community outcomes. The banking business has continued its steady growth pattern with total holdings now exceeding $210 million despite the tough economic times we have experienced of late.

In November 2012, we completed the renovations to our Winchelsea Community Bank® Branch which incorporates an open layout and new technology that will make transactions more efficient and allows customers to choose how they interact with us. The branch has been designed to promote a welcoming and engaging environment for our customers, which goes hand in hand with our excellent customer service.

We welcome two new Directors to our company, Jenny Sewell and Marie McPadden as well as three associate Directors, Jim Tutt, Raylene Fordham and Pamela Sandlant. We believe they will compliment the existing volunteer Board sharing the passion and commitment to assist us to continue to drive the business forward.

I hope you enjoy the latest edition of our newsletter and related achievements throughout the community, and thank you for your support.

Construction of the new Anglesea Fire Station is well underway with the opening scheduled for February 2013. The new fire station will better equip the station for its primary function of fire fighting and management, be the equivalent of a 6 star energy rating, and provide space to educate the community about the environment and fire risks and prevention.

Anglesea Community Bank® Branch provided $100,000 toward the $1.6 million development with a further $300,000 raised by the local brigade. Never before in Victoria, has a local community raised such a sum to build a new fire station.

For further information, contact Anglesea Community Bank® Branch or visit www.ourstationourfuture.com.au

The Greenlight program aims to help inexperienced drivers improve their skills by educating them on understanding vehicle dynamics and control, defensive driving techniques and reducing risk-taking behaviours, such as speed, fatigue and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Greenlight course was a follow-on program following a Young Driver Education Program facilitated by our Community Bank® branches, Victoria Police, Surf Cost Shire and Road Trauma Support Services.

Three workshops have already been held across the area with more planned in the future.

Anglesea and Winchelsea Community Bank® branches are currently involved with school banking at six of our local primary schools. This assists in teaching the important value of money and saving. The students enjoy the responsibility of being able to bank their own money, by presenting their deposit books and hard earned pocket money to one of our staff members on the designated weekly School Banking Day.

The students enjoy sharing their stories of how they earned their money and there are a lot of budding entrepreneurs.

For more information as to your school’s School Banking Day, please refer to your school newsletter or contact your local Community Bank® branch to see how your child can become involved.

In addition to our Community Bank® branches BBQ trailer and marquees which are regularly used by local community groups to assist in promotion and fund raising activities, the Anglesea and Winchelsea Community Bank®branches now have a mobile Eftpos machine available for casual use. CommunityPOS has already been used giving the local groups the opportunity for card based sales (debit and credit cards) and has already generated more than $150,000 in transactions.

The CommunityPOS has been used at many local art shows and auctions hosted by local not-for-profit organizations enabling secure sales that may not otherwise have happened and another means of support.
