LOCAL NONPROFITS
WIN GRANTS
Cummings Foundation
awards $10 million each year through its $100K for
100 grant program. This philanthropic initiative pri-
marily supports nonprofits in the Massachusetts coun-
ties where the Foundation and its founders originally
derived their funds and where staff and clients of the
Cummings organization live – Middlesex, Essex, and
Suffolk County. In Marlborough, Boys & Girls Clubs
of MetroWest and Friends of the Marlborough
Seniors were winners this year, as was the Fresh
Start Furniture Bank in Hudson. We congratulate
these worthy organizations! To learn more about the
grant program, and to see a full list of recipients, visit

PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST Rose and Paul Westheimer won the best indoor shot with “View from the
Window,” and Jim Brennan’s “Winter Sky Sunset” and John McKinney’s “New Horizons Statues” tied for
the best outdoor shots of the New Horizons campus. Thank you to all residents who participated in our Photog-
raphy Month contest. We were proud to display your work on our community cable channel 918.
PREVENTING SKIN CANCER
Exposure to sunlight raises vitamin D
levels and can be beneficial to your
health and wellness. Overexposure to the sun’s dam-
aging ultra violet (UV) rays, however, can lead to the
most common and preventable cancer in the United
States, skin cancer. Keep things on the sunny side:
Stay in the shade during the midday hours
Wear clothing that covers arms and legs
Use sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher
Wear a hat and sunglasses
Remember to talk to your doctor if you notice any
changes in your skin. For additional information,
please contact VNA Care Advantage at 508-460-
5286, or stop by The Wellness Center, located in the
Town Center.
