January Birthdays
In astrology, those born between January 1–19 are Capricorn’s Goats. Goats are practical, determined, and ambitious. They follow a straightforward path and persevere with grit and honesty. Those born between January 20–31 are Water Bearers of Aquarius. Water Bearers are creative and intellectual philosophers, getting to the root of problems and using their talents for the benefit of others.

WHERE DID THE YEAR 2017 GO?
I know we were busy 365 days participating in all type
of activities. Ask yourself this? Did the nurses care for
their residents? Did the nurses aides fill trays? How
about the activities? Did you play balloon volleyball
in the lobby? Or learn to bake a new goodies with the
chef, or learn to walk without your walker with the
help of a physical therapist? Or play Bingo with the
volunteers? Did you use the bus for your trips to the
doctor or to go out for lunch or a movie? Or did you
attend the Kennedy Center? How about the dining
room staff, did they feed you? In the fall, did you
celebrate Chesterbrook’s 10th year anniversary? And
on other days did you celebrate your own birthday?
WOW, WITH ALL THE THINGS TO DO, 365
DAYS WERE NOT ENOUGH!

I would like to thank every one of the residents for making my time at Chesterbrook so special during the 7 months I spent as an intern. I started as a George Mason University intern, and was able to continue on with Chesterbrook after as an Administrative Intern. I am so glad I got to stay longer; Chesterbrook is a wonderful place for students to learn. Over the 7 months I gained so much knowledge from my peers that has greatly impacted me and helped me on my journey to achieve the position at my new job. I am now working as a Nursing Department Coordinator in Reston, at Tall Oaks Assisted Living, a sister community to Chesterbrook. And while I love it here, I will always know Chesterbrook as my first home and I will try to visit as often as possible. Amy Vancampen
Knit-N-Stitch is a group of residents who combine their knitting, crocheting, and sewing talents to make blankets for need people. We use donated or purchased yarn in
many bright colors. The blankets are delivered to shelters for the homeless or, this year, to Second Story, which
provides temporary housing to young mothers and their children.
If you would like to help or have yarn to donate, come to the Card Room any Monday at 3:00 p.m. You are also welcome to sit with us to do any kind of needlework or
just to chat.

4 things you cannot recover
A young lady was waiting for her flight in the boarding room of a big airport. As
she would need to wait many hours she decided to buy a book to spend her time.
She also bought a pack of cookies.
She sat down in an armchair, in the VIP room, to rest and read in peace. Beside
the armchair were the pack of cookies lay, a man sat down in the next seat opened
a magazine and started reading. When she took out the first cookie, the man took
one also. She felt irritated but said nothing. She just thought. “What nerve! If I
were in the mood, would punch him for daring.” For each cookie she took, the
man took one too. This was infuriating her but she didn’t want to cause a scene.
When only one cookie remained, she thought “ah, what this abusive man to do
now”” Then the man taking the last cookie, divided it into half, giving her one
half. She was much too angry now! In a huff, she took her book her things and
stormed to the boarding place. When she sat down in her seat, inside the plane,
she looked into her purse to take out her eyeglasses, and to her surprise, her pack
of cookies were there, untouched, unopened. She felt so ashamed!! She realized
that she was wrong….she had forgotten that her cookies were kept in her purse.
The man had divided his cookies with her, without feeling angered or
bitter….while she had been angry, thinking that she was dividing her cookies with
him and now there is no chance to explain herself-nor to apologize.
“The Moral of the Story”
There are 4 things you cannot recover. The stone…after the throw!
The word…..After it’s said! The Occasion….After the Loss! The Time…..After
its Gone.
