The Consumers played on different teams as a way of introducing Community Participation and to generate interest of joining a dart league independently in the future. On December 15th, 2016 the dart league held a Christmas pot luck party to celebrate the end of the fall session. Danny, Scott, Peter, Cyndi, Brett and Mike and Ron made treats to share at the party. Community Living Mattawa Strategic Plan Update

In 2017 Community Living Mattawa will be updating its Strategic Plan. This is the plan that guides the agencies activities. The last plan was developed in 2012 and since that time the Developmental Services sector has seen a lot of changes. Since 2012, the Ministry of Community and Social Services has been progressing with its transformation initiative. This initiative has focused on making services and supports for people with developmental disabilities more personalized and more community-focused. This process began with the introduction of new legislation that outlined the promotion of social inclusion for persons with developmental disabilities; this was followed by the closing of the last institutions; then was followed by the introduction of individualized funding for people with developmental disabilities; and finally the closing of sheltered workshops with the focus of finding people with developmental disabilities work in the community at a competitive wage. The Ministry is continuing to push social inclusion for people with developmental disabilities by challenging agencies to provide more community-based and individualized services.

Community Living Mattawa’s 2017 Strategic Plan will look at the priorities of the Ministry and design a framework that will promote the social inclusion of the people we support. The plan will look at what types of community participation support programs are provided and how they will be delivered; what type of employment opportunities our consumers would like to access; ; and where and how people are living and whether they meet the needs of the consumer. The plan will also identify what type of staffing philosophy the agency will have moving forward; what types of community partnerships need to be developed; and what kind of education needs to be done with members of the community, so they can share in the direction the agency and the developmental services sector are going.

In order to achieve this, consumers, families, members, and employees will be asked for their input on how CLM can better serve the consumers and meet the directives set out by the Ministry of Community and Social Services. More information will be forthcoming in the following weeks.
