September 2015 Community News Welcome Welcome to our Spring edition. As the weather starts to warm up, there’s plenty of activity happening in town, including the Maranoa Food and Fire Festival (12 September) as well as the National Skate Park Day (19 September). Within Clearview Rise, there’s also plenty happening with stage four of construction complete and our community growing to more than 50 homes. Recently, the Clearview Rise team completed a resident door knock to meet residents and ask about their experience of living in the community. We were delighted to hear that residents love living in Clearview Rise. Specifically, they love the peace and quiet and, most of all, the overall location of the estate. Did you know? Clearview Rise has been recognised by the Urban Development Institute of Australia for outstanding environmental initiatives in the construction and design of the development. This 6-leaf EnviroDevelopment accreditation recognises achievements across ecosystems, waste, energy, materials, water and community. What this means for residents is an environmentally-friendly community which reduces the running costs of individual homes due to significant energy and water saving practices. Saving up to $1,050 a year on bills. Three local apprentices have completed their training, constructing a new family home in Clearview Rise with the support of local builder SM & KA Duff Builders.

Barry Blundell, Bunny Pearce & Ryan O’Brien completed more than 1300 training hours to construct the home with SM & KA Duff Builders providing critical mentoring support.

The apprentices gained valuable experience across a number of trade skills including carpentry, electrical, fencing and landscaping.

Now complete, the home will be gifted to Maranoa Regional Council. The three bedroom home includes some accessible features, such as a wider hallway and door passages, and enough space in the kitchen and bathrooms for a wheelchair turning circle.

SM & KA Duff Builders director Stephen Duff said he was very excited to be involved in the project.

“This is a great initiative for our town and I’ve enjoyed mentoring the apprentices,” Mr Duff said.

“As a Roma local, I want to see our town grow and prosper. If we don’t provide these training opportunities locally, our youth will seek them out elsewhere.”

The Apprentice Training Program is a collaboration between Economic Development Queensland, Golden West Apprenticeships and TAFE Queensland South West.
