Better Together

Aside from this chilly cold weather, we cannot avoid the scene of naked trees, dancing branches, and colorful red, yellow, and orange leaves on the ground. It is the best time to explore with the little ones the beauty of fall, and that is exactly what we have been doing at Better Together. With almost 40 families attending this Fall’s Better Together program, we are excited to see the growth and development our families have made. Better Together is a weekly class for young children birth to three years old. It is a safe space where the child and their caregiver learn, play and develop preschool readiness skills together. This month we have practiced the primary colors, painted pumpkins, and even made our own colorful class tree. We look forward to having new friends and family join us every Thursday from 10:00- 11:30 AM for fun learning activities.

Mejor Juntos

Aparte de este clima frío, no podemos evitar la escena de árboles, ramas danzantes y hojas rojas, amarillas y naranjas en el suelo. Es el mejor momento para explorar con los pequeños la belleza del otoño, y eso es exactamente lo que hemos estado haciendo en “Better Together” o Mejor Juntos. Con casi 40 familias que asistieron al programa este otoño, nos complace ver el crecimiento y el desarrollo que nuestras familias han logrado. “Better Together” es una clase semanal para niños desde el nacimiento hasta los tres años. Es un espacio seguro donde el niño y su cuidador aprenden, juegan y desarrollan habilidades de preparación preescolar juntos. Este mes practicamos los colores primarios, pintamos calabazas e incluso hicimos nuestro propio árbol de clases de colores. Esperamos que nuevos amigos y familiares se unan a nosotros todos los jueves de 10:00-11:30 AM para actividades de aprendizaje divertidas.

Fall Festival at Green Bay

The Fall Festival was the first collaborative community school event of the 2018-2019 school year. The purpose of this event was to highlight different components of fall themed, wellness activities that include gross motor games, hands-on crafts and activities. Additionally, a goal of this event was to strengthen relationships between families and the school staff. At the event, students and their families had the opportunity to decorate a pumpkin, play a game of Fall Bingo, spell their name with leaves and create a fall tree, and play some fun fall themed games like Jack-O-Lantern memory match and Gourd Tic Tac Toe. Families were also served dinner and had the opportunity to visit a “pop-up” grocery store.

DISTRICT-WIDE UPDATE

Message from John P. Price, Superintendent

Dear Families,

The district has adopted ambitious goals for the next five years. Approved by the Independent Authority in June, these goals will guide the work of teachers and principals. Our work together is focused on improving the academic achievement of all of our students.

Our goals are:

Goal #1 - Increase the percentage of third graders reaching grade level standards by focusing on early instruction and intervention

Goal #2 - Increase the rate of academic growth for ALL students in both reading and mathematics

Goal #3 - Increase the four year graduation rate to 80%

Goal #4 - Prepare each student for success after high school by creating a post-secondary plan for each student

These goals will require a great deal of work from our District 187 staff, and from each of you! Only by working together can we achieve these goals.

At home, you can make sure that you child reads every day, completes all of their homework, and gets a good night rest. Talk with your child about their school work and their grades, and show them that what they do in school is important to you.

Our goals are all focused on all our kids. When we reach these goals, we know that our students will be even better prepared for college and career.

Queridas familias,

El distrito ha adoptado metas ambiciosas para los próximos cinco años. Aprobado por la Autoridad Independiente en junio, estos objetivos guiarán el trabajo de los maestros y directores. Nuestro trabajo en conjunto se centra en mejorar el logro académico de todos nuestros estudiantes.

Nuestros objetivos son:

Meta #1 - Aumentar el porcentaje de estudiantes de tercer grado que alcanzan los estándares de nivel de grado al enfocarse en la instrucción e intervención temprana

Meta #2 - Aumentar la tasa de crecimiento académico para TODOS los estudiantes en lectura y matemáticas

¡Estas metas requerirán mucho trabajo de parte de nuestro personal del Distrito 187 y de cada uno de ustedes! Solo trabajando juntos podemos lograr estos objetivos.

En casa, puede asegurarse de que su hijo lea todos los días, termine toda su tarea y descanse bien por la noche. Hable con su hijo sobre su trabajo escolar y sus calificaciones, y muéstreles que lo que hacen en la escuela es importante para usted.

Nuestras metas están enfocadas en todos nuestros niños. Cuando alcancemos estos objetivos, sabemos que nuestros estudiantes estarán aún mejor preparados para la universidad y para la carrera que escojan.

Festival de Otoño en Green Bay

El Festival de Otoño fue el primer evento comunitario de colaboración del año escolar 2018-2019. El propósito de este evento fue resaltar los diferentes componentes de las actividades de bienestar temáticas de otoño que incluyen: juegos de motricidad gruesa, manualidades prácticas y actividades. Además, el objetivo de este evento fue fortalecer las relaciones entre las familias y el personal escolar. Durante el evento, los estudiantes y sus familias tuvieron la oportunidad de decorar una calabaza, jugar un juego de Bingo, deletrear su nombre con hojas y crear un árbol de otoño, y jugar algunos juegos divertidos de otoño como el juego de memoria de Jack-O-Lantern y Tic Tac Toe. Se les sirvió cena a las familias y también tuvieron la oportunidad de visitar una tienda de comestibles gratuita.
