Community HoopsOverview

A way to giveback! Community Hoops is designed to connect Purdue University with the youth of the Greater Lafayette area, Indiana and beyond by restoring and/or building basketball courts.

Purdue Trademarks and Licensing put together a rather unique partnership, utilizing needs within the community, Brian’s desire to “give back” and the licensing department’s connections to begin the process of upgrading playgrounds, starting in the Lafayette area by restoring a basketball court that is in a state of disrepair, Murdock Park.

Community HoopsAthlete Involvement

The project started in the Spring of 2013 and includes:• New backboards• Lights • Seating • Resurfacing the court• Painting the court to look like the basketball floor in Mackey Arena• Baring Brian’s name

Brian Cardinal will make periodic appearances at the court and a maintenance plan is in place to assure the court’s upkeep. The project required $15,000.

The program, as it continues, will lead to similar projects involving Brian and other former Purdue players around the greater Lafayette area, Indiana and beyond, using Cardinal’s name in his hometown of Tolono, Ill., and perhaps cities where he has played professionally, like Dallas.

Purdue Fans have the opportunity to inspire future Boilermakers and contribute to the program by merely buying merchandise from the Community Hoops/6th Boiler line. For each Community Hoops/6th Boiler item purchased, the vendor makes a donation to the Community Hoops fund.
