I want to personally invite everyone to attend a meeting on February 1st at2:00 in my office to help update/analyze our school wellness plan. FFA
Our first “Trees for Tots” auction got changed due to the cancella-tion of the basketball game. We were able to put all of the decorat-ed trees on our Facebook page and ran a silent auction! We believe
it brought more money than during a basketball game because everyonewas able to bid on trees not just those that could attend the basketballgame. We raised lots of money for the Ronald McDonald House in DesMoines, over $400.00. The high school, elementary school and communi-ty donated pop tabs, toys, and things needed for the house. We took agroup of 7 members up to deliver the items and they were very thankful. We'd like to thank everyone who made it possible and donated pop tabs!We are beginning to collect pop tabs again, please save your pop tabs andsend them to school! We want to double what we raised last time!
We had our annual Ugly Sweater Day on December 21. There weremany kids who participated and had a great time. We also had ourChristmas party for officers that day and the Christmas snack day. Therewas a gift exchange and some sweet treats. Everything was calorie free I’msure of, and the officers left with some great gifts!
It’s crazy busy in the agricultural building right now. We have manymembers who are getting ready for contest this year. While most studentswill enjoy President’s Day off, many FFA members will be competing atsub-district contests that will be held at Vermeer Pavilion on February20th. We will have an Experience the Action team, a team for Conduct ofMeeting, a member doing Job Interview, a Creed Speaker, Ag Sales, two AgMechanics students competing, a group competing in Program ofActivities, a member doing the extemporaneous speaking event andmembers taking the Greenhand and Chapter Quiz. We also have mem-bers working on their science fair projects. Science Fair will be held inAmes this year on March 30th. Right now we have over 5 projects com-peting this day.
Our very own Vice-President, Jordyn Sanders, has taken on the responsibility of being a page at thecapital during this years legislature symposium.Jordyn is working on the senate side, what a wonder-ful opportunity this is for her, all because of FFA!
The annual FFA Blood Drive is scheduled forThursday January 26th! We still need donors, pleasehelp us reach our goal! Contact the school or Mrs.Johnson today to donate! We will also be attendingthe swine expo on the same day where seven of ourmembers will be competing in the swine judgingcompetition and then heading to the expo itself.

That following day on the 27th we will be attending the Farm and Home Show in Ottumwa at Bridgeview Center. Duringthis day many FFA students will be helping vendors set up and also attend valuable workshops on agriculture. On the 31stof this month seven of our FFA officers will be attending the FFA legislature symposium at the capital. This is a day for allFFA chapters to advocate to their legislatures the importance of agriculture in high school. We will also get to see theGovernor sign the FFA Week Proclamation.
During the month of February many events are planned for FFA Week, including District contests and helping outCrystal Heights with a Valentine’s meal for the elderly. So many events planned and so little time to do it in, but somehowour FFA Chapter makes it work!
We'd all like to congratulate Mrs. Johnson on winning the Golden Apple Award! This award was very deserved and shegives these members things that will stick with them forever.
December Studentof the MonthWinners at TwinCedars Junior-Senior High Schoolwere: Grace Bailey (7th), Josiah Smith (8th), Athena Bruns (9th), Anna Lopez (10th), Nick Haselhuhn (11th), and Kelli Spaur (12th).

age your child to do their best. There will be incentives based on student performance.
Reading Buddies
Iowa Public Television has provided Twin Cedars Elementary with IPTV's new Reading Buddies program whichincludes multiple copies of interesting picture books. Martha Speaks Reading accompanies the Martha Speaks tele-vision series and is an innovative way for first grade and fifth grade elementary students to increase their vocabulary,
develop their self-esteem and social skills, and enhance their love of books and reading. First and fifth grade students willmeet weekly to read and enjoy games together. We look forward to this experience.

Hello Parents and Guardians of Twin Cedars!
My name is Kala Keller and I am a Music Education major at William Penn University. I’m from Eagle Grove Iowa, and I graduated from the small high school of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. I attended Iowa Central where I got myAA in Music before transferring to William Penn.
I have gotten the chance to do the first half of my student teaching here at Twin Cedars, and I am so excited to get thisopportunity as I have heard great things about this school and the community. I’m so glad that I get to student teach in asmall school, not only because it is similar to my high school, but because small schools have the best communities sup-porting them. I am excited to get to know and work with all the students and faculty here at TC!
