Role Purpose

Providing day to day mechanical maintenance and breakdown activity and thus deliver into an ethos of maximum plant reliability, flexibility, availability and overall plant performance whilst attaining high standards of Quality, Health Safety & Environmental performance. Management and practical application of fault

finding, repair and maintenance associated to mechanical systems and equipment at a modern EfW Power Plant or heavy process environment ensuring safe, effective mechanical maintenance, and timely diagnosis, execution and repair of plant and equipment is provided throughout the plant.

Key Responsibilities

1. Health, Safety & Environment

Implementing the companies’ health, safety and environmental management policies.

Carrying out responsibilities as defined in the companies Safety Rules and associated procedures.

Participate in company/site HSE initiatives including the HSE forum activities.

Implementing the company’s health, safety and environmental management policies and actively participate in company/site HSE initiatives including the HSE forum activities, including site procedure reviews on a periodic basis.

Assist in the coordination and planning of daily maintenance activities with the M&E Engineer and EC&I Engineers, Plant/Safety Controller to ensure maximum plant reliability and flexibility is achieved to high standards of quality, safety and environmental performance.

Carrying out responsibilities as defined in the companies Safety rules and associated procedures.

2. Team working

All mechanical and rotating equipment maintenance activities, integrating into a team of highly skilled technicians that also manage contract support organisations as required in accordance with the Health & Safety, Quality & Environmental Management procedures for the plant.

Participating in department training, development and staff appraisals.

Responsible for assisting the M&E Engineer with all aspects associated with mechanical and rotating equipment repairs and keeping detailed history records. Utilising the business computerised maintenance management system.

Responsible for providing technical support to Operations.

To be on call and to change working patterns where necessary in order to meet the needs of the business.

Building and maintaining a culture of team work where team members progress towards Operational and Maintenance dual-skilling and want to contribute to their full potential.

3. Key Activities

Working knowledge of preventative maintenance/defect repair on: Overhead cranes, Grabs, Pumps, Fans, Mechanical Drives & Assemblies and other equipment related to the site.

An understanding and ability to read Electrical/Hydraulic/Pneumatic/P&ID and isometric diagrams.

Ensure equipment compliance with the environmental management system and consent requirements.

Quality control of all work associated with the Department.

Ensure that all mechanical activities, spares and information are correctly inputted and available for use.

Responsible for carrying out all equipment monitoring controls (e.g. vibration analysis), equipment spares assessment, ordering and control to ensure high availability of the plants equipment.

Assisting with the development of, and work within the mechanical sections budget constraints.

Participation in projects and initiatives as delegated by the M&E Engineer.

Identifying and taking proactive measures to improve plant operational shortfalls and augment engineering solutions.

Supervise and develop the Contract Support Organisations to deliver scheduled, preventative, breakdown, planned maintenance and operational activities.

Maintenance and servicing, repairing and history recording of all mechanical plant equipment.

Quality control of designated work associated within the maintenance department.

Supervision of appropriate maintenance contracts and projects.

Assist in outage planning, scheduling and co-ordination.

Supporting other UK business if the needs arise.

Stand in for the M&E Engineer in their absence.

Qualifications and Experience (preferred)

ONC/City and Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in a Mechanical Engineering discipline with a high level of practical Operational/Maintenance experience/knowledge (Qualifications below this may be acceptable if accompanied by suitable experience).

A good understanding of all HSE aspects is a fundamental requirement, IOSH managing safely is preferable.

Knowledge of power generation operations and maintenance associated with Steam turbines, boilers, balance of plant, electrical generation and distribution up to 33kV, plant control and instrumentation and computer aided Maintenance Management applications.

Excellent verbal/written communication skills.

Familiar with a number of computer applications.

Good interpersonal skills, self motivated, flexible and committed attitude.

At least 3 years in power generation industry operations and maintenance. Exposure to heavy process plant maintenance activity.

The individual will need to be a self-motivated individual with exceptional organisational and interpersonal skills. The individual must be suited to a culture which is entrepreneurial, fast paces, value-drive, and with very high corporate performance and ethical standards. The individual will need to be very comfortable working in a lean structure, should be highly customer focused, possess strong ethical and moral standards and be willing to assume significant personal accountability.

The ability to work unsupervised and take responsibility during dynamic situations.

Potential for promotion, within the Company, to Maintenance Engineer or other position.
