1. MISSION STATEMENT

DEVELOPMENT THROUGH PARTNERSHIP 2. COMPANY BACKGROUND

Dux Consulting Engineers (DCE) Registration number 1996/014195/23 is a firm of professional civil and structural engineers, as well as project management. It has associate members /companies/ divisions in mining and electrical engineering. The firm is level 2 and is owned and run by majority black and women professionals and fulfils the real empowerment principles required by our country. The company has a head office in Limpopo Province, and satellite offices in other provinces. It has incorporated or merges both the talent from the previously disadvantaged professionals of Mosena & Associates ( 2003) and the experienced professionals from the firm’s original practice as Steenkamp, Hatting & Haupt, dating back to 1996. The firm has since 2003 changed its shareholding and management structure to be in line with the new dispensation resulting in the unbundling of Steenkamp, Hatting & Haupt consulting engineers and the subsequent opening of Dux Consulting Engineers – Head Office; branch or satellite offices and associated offices in various provinces and districts. 3. OWNERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT

The firm is owned and managed by well-trained and experienced family of professionals that include BEE compliant and covers various fields including Civil and Structural Engineering, Architect, Mining and Electrical Engineering as well as Town and Regional Planning in all four provinces. Mr. S.G. Mosena who in addition to his Technical professional qualifications has further studied an ANC sponsored MSc.Econ (UK); MCRP (UCT) and MBA (UniLim/Pta), and is now completing LLB degree from UNISA, is the firm’s Group CEO. Ms Nthabiseng Mosena is a director and has completed B.Arch. (WITS); Cert. Project Management (DML), BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering (Sheffield –UK) and MSc Eng. Civil Engineering with Project Management (Leeds –UK) under the firm’s sponsored young woman program. The non-executive Chairman is Ms Mamakadi Mosena – MBA (UL); MEng: Mining Engineering – (WITS) etc.

5. IN-HOUSE CAPACITY

The Group of Companies (available from the previous Steenkamp, Hatting & Haupt) utilizes two Engineering Specialists with PhD degrees, two with MSc degrees, three with BSc Eng. Civil & Structural Engineering degrees, one with B.Tech Engineering and several staff with IT and Engineering diplomas/certificates. The technical personnel and draughtsmen are well equipped with the latest technology PC hardware and a wide variety of software packages for computer aided draughting and design. Several students’ trainees for instance Mr J Ravele in Polokwane, Miss Nthabiseng Mosena BEng (Hons) and MEng Civil & Structural Engineering student in UK, have been appointed as junior partner and graduate engineer attached to PTA and Midrand offices. She is the company bursary holder. The

6. EXPERIENCE/PROJECTS COMPLETED BY COMPANY PLUS CLIENTS

Since operations by some members commenced in 1964 numerous projects were successfully completed in both rural areas and proclaimed towns particularly in the Limpopo Province. These include provision of physical infrastructure to meet basic needs as well as addressing the needs of all levels of the community. The firm has become actively involved through the National Housing Board’s project linked housing subsidy scheme with various communities (five low cost housing projects completed) and is actively involved in community development and community empowerment.

Various other community based projects have been identified for funding and will be done with the use of labour based technologies and labour intensive methods in which the community is, in addition, involved in the commercial, managerial and administrative aspects so as to transfer skills and competencies to the community.

Rubicon is a road pavement design and analysis software program develop by MAS (the MAS team is made up of Dr Fritz Jooste, Dr Fenella Long, Sanet Jooste, Dr Arno Hefer and Marlou Bredenkamp) Rubicon incorporates several tools that utilize the layered elastic theory (LET) model for pavement response calculation. The LET: Standard Axle Analysis tool allows users to evaluate the structural capacity of a pavement structure in terms of a user-defined standard axle. A key feature of the Standard Axle Analysis Tool is that it allows designers to evaluate multiple phases of pavement structural life in a single calculation. In this manner, complex behaviour patterns such as breakdown of cemented layers into granular materials, deterioration of bituminous materials etc. can be easily modelled and evaluated. The multi-phase model can also be used to evaluate multi-stage construction projects. All calculations are shown in a transparent manner in a neat report which explicitly summarizes all assumptions and calculation results.

Surge 5 / PIPE 2000 for transient water flow analyses is a computer program developed by the Civil & Mechanical Engineering Departments of the University of Kentucky, USA. The Surge program solves the basic equation of fluid mechanics for the transient flow of an incompressible fluid in a pipe network using the powerful and flexible “wave plan” approach.
