Our mission is to bring beautiful light and clear skies to everyone’s reach. Inspired by nature, our luminaires reproduce natural light and dynamic skies, from dawn to dusk. We want to bring natural light indoors, where we spend most of our days, in places where windows are absent or where the daylight factor is too small. We know good lighting has many positive effects - it enhances wellbeing, productivity and alertness. We wanted to create a light that would bring the feelings we get from a beautiful morning, a sunny day or a stunning blue sky. But we also wanted a luminaire that brings the right light at the right time to help maintain a balanced body clock. Passionate about technology, physics and wellbeing, our Founder went outside to measure the spectrum of the sky and started developing a large lighting surface aiming at recreating the feeling of being next to a big window or under a clear sky. In 2015 our lead product Big Sky® was born.

Our story: Light Cognitive wants to bring daylight indoors

Research has long unveiled the biological effects of light on people’s wellbeing.

Humans are genetically conditioned to natural light and a 24 hours daily cycle, so-called circadian cycle.

The best lighting conditions occur close to the equator where day and night lengths are constantly similar.

Deviations from these conditions trigger adverse effects. As an example, the prevalence of Seasonal Affective Disorders increases with latitude.

We see a future where lighting is immersive and enhances our everyday life. At Light Cognitive we believe it is within your reach today.

Big Sky® Limitless is our solution for bespoke and custom-size installations. While Big Sky® Horizon and Big Sky® ️Dome are standard-size products, Limitless enables to create sky surfaces and light fields of any size. Large lighting surfaces have minimal glare and they are immersive. Like all Big Sky® ️ products, Limitless offers a tunable light spectrum with high & nature-like color rendering index. Big Sky® Limitless is installed on-site by Light Cognitive technicians or certified installers.

Big Sky Skylight is the definitive solution for creating a feeling of a window through the ceiling – without the need for a top floor room and cutting through the roof. It is ideal for underground spaces or rooms with insufficient lighting. It brings a stunning feeling as if being in a penthouse on a sunny day. There are two versions of Skylight: for recessed or for suspended installation. Skylight can also be installed vertically on walls to mimic traditional windows. Big Sky Skylight is tunable and available with Sky Player.

One of the main features at the Kämp St. George luxury hotel in Helsinki is the Big Sky® ️ light wall which greets guests as they enter the spa. Big Sky® is inspired by nature and clear skies. As the hotel describes it: "A moment with Big Sky® ️ is a moment with healing light”. The hotel St. George is the first in the Nordic region to offer its guests holistic care for a healthy mind, heart and body. The concept is ambitious – expanding the customer experience to include new dimensions and new perspectives on total wellbeing.

The Hospital La Tour in Geneva1 has undergone a major renovation in 2017 and 2018 with the construction of a state-of-the-art radiotherapy room. Light Cognitive’s partner and reseller in Geneva, Dcube, proposed to install a Big Sky® Limitless in this room to enable patients to relax before a possibly stressful treatment and, vice versa, increase their alertness after it. The unique properties of Big Sky® ️were seen as ideal for this complex and unique application. There, Big Sky® is controlled centrally by the operator of the radiotherapy room.
