Over 40 years Tecnofil has continued to invest in its production processes to improve quality, on time delivery and reduce costs. From our start casting copper billets we have transformed our plants incorporating the latest in vertical upcast technology, continuous forming extrusion, rolling, drawing and annealing. We have a dedicated team of metallurgists continuously improving our production process.

Quality control

Tecnofil has one of the most advanced metallurgical laboratories in South America. Equipment includes an atomic absorption analyzer, optical emissions tester, oxygen/hydrogen analyzer, high resolution microscopes, conductivity Sigmascope, metallurgical microscope, stereoscope, tensile strength tester, hardness tester, x-ray fluorescence thickness tester and others. It ensures we meet the tightest of tolerances our customers request.

Oxygen free copper

Tecnofil uses virgin copper cathodes to manufacture its products to specific minimum copper purity levels. Chemical compositions are based on ASTM, DIN EN, JIS or to a customer’s requirements. Oxygen Free Electronic grade copper (CDA 101 / Cu-OFE) is 99.99% pure, while Oxygen Free copper (CDA 102 / Cu-OF) is 99.95% pure. Due to their lack of oxygen, these alloys present minimal to no hydrogen embrittlement and their conductivity may be certified to over 101% IACS. Desirable characteristics of these copper alloys include corrosion resistance, ductility, formability, thermal conductivity, and weldability. Product applications include bus bar, bus conductors, rotor bar, electrical conductors, electrical cable, coaxial cables, magnet wire, transistor components, welding wire and trolley wire.

Electrolytic Tough Pitch (ETP) copper

Tecnofil offers ETP copper (CDA 110 / Cu-ETP) which has a minimum 99.90% copper and is used in applications where the presence of oxygen between 0.02% and 0.05% is not critical. ETP is the most widely used copper alloy. Product applications include bus bar, bus conductors, electrical conductors and cable, connectors and many other applications.

Silver bearing copper

These oxygen free copper silver alloys have advantages over pure copper alloys in applications where resistance to thermal softening and high strength are required while maintaining high conductivity. Tecnofil offers alloys CDA 104, CDA 105 and CDA 107. Typical applications for these alloys include bus bar, commutator bars and segments, conductivity wire and other conductors, contacts, fuse clips, generator coils, heat exchangers, switches, terminal connectors, terminals and windings.

Copper phosphorus

These alloys have at least 99.90% copper and contain a range of phosphorus. The phosphorus reduces oxygen content and lowers surface tension as well as eliminates cracking and breakages. Copper phosphor offers excellent weldability, brazability, solderability, corrosion resistance, ductility, formability, electrical and thermal conductivity. Typical applications include welded or brazed bus bar, conductors, resistance for welding equipment, wire connectors, anodes, hangers and racks for electroplating.

Copper magnesium

Copper magnesium alloys are an environmentally friendly alternative to copper cadmium alloys. Tecnofil’s automated furnace feeding technology allows for precise alloying to achieve the desired tensile strength, electrical conductivity and diameters. Typical applications for these alloys include conductors, contacts, terminal connectors, terminals, electrical wire and cable, catenary and electrical trolley wire.

High copper tin

This alloy contains ranges of tin and other elements producing a metal with high ductility and electrical conductivity. Typical applications include various types of wiring harnesses. Tecnofil’s casting and drawing technology, ensure precise mechanical properties for advanced performance.

High copper alloy solder (deoxidized copper)

Widely used in the automotive industry for the purpose of achieving a copper colored, high conductivity, non-porous solder on materials such as copper and steel. It contains traces of manganese, tin and other elements providing corrosion resistance, electrical and thermal conductivity, galling resistance, and high strength.

Copper iron

These alloys containing iron and other elements are ideal for applications where appearance, corrosion resistance, electrical and thermal conductivity, formability, high strength, resistance to thermal softening, cracking resistance, solderability and weldability are desired. Typical applications include electrical connectors and terminals, cable wrap and shielding, circuit breaker components, clamps, contact springs, fuse clips, plug contacts, rivets, and other heat resistant applications.

Lead free brass

A historical alloy mainly composed of copper and a range of 5% to 40% zinc. Common names include Gilding Brass, Commercial Bronze, Jewelry Bronze, Red Brass, Brass, Low Brass, Cartridge Brass, Yellow Brass and Muntz Metal. Depending on the zinc content, the properties of these alloys vary and our customers will require particular alloys considering their properties for cold heading, elasticity, electrical and thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, tensile strength, memory, weldability, plateability, and even color. Their lead free status makes some of these ideal for plumbing components, costume jewelry, ball point pens, chain links, zippers and architectural enhancements. We also see these alloy in the electrical industry for the manufacture of components such as connectors, electrical sockets, cables, cable wrap or rotor bars. Industries in general will require more than one of these alloys for the manufacture of welding wire, chins, springs, wire screens, some hot forgings, a wide variety of cold headed parts, an assortment of fasteners and marine parts.

Copper zinc tin

This alloy containing about 88% copper and 10% zinc is appreciated for its fatigue resistance, appearance, corrosion resistance, strength, wear resistance, resistance to stress relaxation, cracking resistance, electrical and thermal conductivity and formability. Typical uses include visible electrical connectors, fuse clips, switch and contact springs, terminals, bushings and pen clips.

Naval brass and uninhibited naval brass

Traditionally used in naval applications for the manufacturing of fasteners and hardware in contact with fresh and salt water these alloys contain 40% zinc and up to 1% tin. Properties include a distinctive appearance, resistance to corrosion, oxidation, wearing, galling, fatigue, cracking and thermal softening, electrical and thermal conductivity, strength, plateability and rubber adhesion.

Phosophorus bronze

These alloys contain phosphorus and tin concentrations ranging from less than 1% to 9%. Their properties include flexibility, electrical and thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance to salt water and acids, formability, strength, resistance to stress relaxation, fatigue, wear, thermal softening and cracking, endurance, solderability, machinability and formability. Typical applications include fasteners, contact springs, messenger wire, resistance wire, electrical connectors, electronic connectors, fuse clips, switch parts, wire brushes, pins, beater bars, truss wire, welding rods, terminals, gears and marine parts.

Silicon bronze

These alloys contain a range of silicon, manganese and zinc. High-Silicon Bronze A and Low-Silicon Bronze B are the most commonly used alloys. They are preferred for their corrosion resistance to fresh and salt water, petrochemicals and paper industry chemicals, oxidation resistance, formability, brazability, solderability and weldability, strength, wear and galling resistance, resistance to stress relaxation and thermal softening, electrical and thermal conductivity and appearance.

Manganese brass

These environmentally friendly alternatives to nickel bearing alloys are preferred in the jewelry and garment industry where there is contact with human skin.

Copper nickel

These alloy varieties are used for their corrosion resistance to fresh and salt water, flexibility, formability, resistance to thermal softening, solderability, brazeability, weldability, electrical and thermal conductivity. They have a nickel content of 2% to 10% with traces of manganese. Typical uses include resistance wire, welding wire, connectors, electronic contacts, switch springs, telecommunications connectors and brazing wire.

Nickel silver

An alloy composed of copper, nickel and zinc, it offers a silvery shiny finish, resistance to corrosion, formability, electrical and heat conductivity, strength and formability. Typical applications include visible parts for instruments, fasteners, wires and zippers.
