The Pre-Task: Consider these questions: What are your passions/interests? What is your likely college/career path? What concepts/ideas/items/theories/etc. are central to one or more of those pursuits?
The Task: Write a Compare/Contrast Essay (350-500 words in length) in which you compare and/or contrast two concepts/ideas/items/theories… that are related to your interests or future plans.
Include a thesis statement in which you (1) name your subjects, (2) explain your comparison and/or contrast, and (3) draw a conclusion based on your discoveries.
Use subject-by-subject or point-by-point organization to explore your comparisons/contrasts. Write with an authentic audience in mind.
Other Notes: Be sure your essay is typed and double-spaced with 1” margins and a 12-point font. Be sure your essay is formatted in MLA-style. (You do not need to cite any sources…) Be sure your essay exemplifies your very best writing. Be sure your essay is error-free!
Grading: You will be graded according to the standard 6-point rubric. This essay is worth 20% of your overall grade this term.
Due Date: Your final draft is due on Thursday, November 21. (No exceptions!)
