ate One of the most rapidly growing trends

in the world of wine seems to be with the rise in popularity of ice wines (or eiswein in German). This is interesting because these wines have been around for almost 200 years yet have not had much time in the spotlight until recent history. The most famous ice wines are from Germany, however many other countries such as Canada, Austria, and even Australia have been known to produce ice wines of their own. Because Canada is much colder and is capable of more consistent freezing temperatures has actually surpassed Germany in the production of ice wine.

Ice wine is a dessert wine that is made from frozen grapes. Only the water freezes in the grapes, so when they are pressed frozen, the juice that is extracted is very concentrated and very sweet. This freezing must happen before fermentation, and the grapes need to be pressed frozen, otherwise the water will melt in the grapes and you will not have the concentrated juice required for ice wines.

Natural ice wines require a hard freeze to occur after the grapes have ripened. In Canada, this temperature is a minimum of 17 degrees Fahrenheit while in Germany this temperature is 19 degrees. This means that the grapes must remain on the vines for several months after a normal harvest and risk being lost to rot if there is no freeze. At the other extreme, if the freeze is too severe the grapes can not be harvested and pressed. Because the fruit must be pressed while it is still frozen, pickers must work late in the night or early in the morning and work while the cellar workers must work in unheated spaces to ensure the grapes do not thaw.

Sometimes wine makers prefer to use cryoextraction. Cryoextraction is a mechanical freezing that is used to simulate the effect of the natural frost that occurs so that grapes can be picked sooner and made into wine. In Germany and Canada, wine created this way can not be called ice wine, only wines which have been frozen naturally are allowed to be called as such.

Whereas regular wines might take days or weeks to ferment, ice wines can take months due to the higher sugar content. Even though it is normal for the sugar content in ice wine to run from 180 g/L up to as high as 320 g/L ice wine remains very refreshing because of

the high acidity. Ice wine usually has a medium to full body, with a lingering finish while the nose is oftentimes reminiscent of peach, pear, honey, caramel, and green apples depending on the varietal grape. Pineapple, mango, and even lychee are quite common aromas with white varietals however this list is by far not exhaustive.

Because the juice from the grapes is more concentrated than regular wine, there is a much smaller yield. It is for this reason as well as the methods used that make ice wines more expensive than table wines. Ice wines can cost as much as $300 a bottle, which is why it is often sold in half bottles for as little as $50. Grapes that have insufficient brix (sugar) content can not be made into ice wine and are therefore usually sold under the label “special select late harvest” or “select late harvest” at a fraction of the price of true ice wines.

When to drink ice wine is a matter of personal taste. Some people believe that ice wine improve with age and supporters claim that the very high sugar level and high acidity preserve the content for years after bottling. There are then others who believe that with age the wine loses its distinctive acidity, fruitiness, aroma, and freshness. Being that ice wines are very versatile in this, when you decide to drink your ice wine depends on when you feel it tastes best.

Ice wines are becoming the latest trend in the wine world and it is easy to see why. Delicious and refreshing, ice wines are a delicacy and a testament to the skills of the wineries. More expensive than a traditional wine, it is not something that the average person can afford to purchase on a regular basis, but are an essential addition to a special occasion or meal.

With the renewal of so many downtown areas, loft design has soared. Buildings that were once rundown and worthless are being transformed into spectacular residential living spaces.

Loft apartments are usually located in renovated factories, warehouses, or other commercial structures that appeal to those who love open living spaces and industrial details. Many people are choosing lofts as they move into urban areas to avoid lengthy commutes and to enjoy rejuvenated downtown neighborhoods. No matter where you live, you can incorporate urban design style into your home with a little loft space planning.

Lofts are characterized by architectural details like exposed brick, vintage wood floors, and support columns. Tall open ceilings often leave ductwork, beams, rafters, or pipes on view for an industrial edge. Most loft spaces also feature sizeable windows with views of sprawling cityscapes. Because of their industrial vibe, modern loft interiors are frequently decorated in a sleek modern or contemporary style with the occasional rustic touch. When decorating a modern loft, you’ll see the urban design style - often combining wood, stone, glass, and stainless steel with natural elements like plants to soften the metropolitan feel. Loft space planning uses color schemes that tend toward neutrals like white, brown, cream, or taupe. Many modern loft interiors can also benefit from accent walls or furniture in warm hues like red, orange, gold, or sage. Since the modern loft interior is open in concept, it is ideal to use a cohesive color palette all through the space. The expansive walls of modern loft interiors allow for the display of large artwork, sculptures, or murals. Lighting needs to be accessible and plentiful in

downtown loft interior designs. For a more intimate setting in a space with high ceilings, hang pendants or chandeliers lower in the rooms.

Modern loft interior design should create a functional and comfortable

floor plan with spaces for relaxation, entertaining, storage, and working. These different loft living areas can then be defined with room dividers, rugs, or furniture. Room division can take

the form of sliding or folding screens, frosted glass panels, or fabric panels on ceiling tracks. Raised platforms are another way to establish a subtle transition for the loft bedroom or dining area. Downtown loft design regularly features rustic wood or concrete floors that are both durable and versatile. Area rugs can help delineate living areas while also adding color, texture, and softness. Furniture groupings are one way to provide comfort and coziness into this urban design style. Sofas and chairs are commonly upholstered in natural fabrics like cotton, wool, linen, or leather. Popular fabric choices include tone-on-tone neutral textures and woven designs. Another nice touch in decorating a modern loft is to integrate double-duty furniture pieces such as an ottoman that is a coffee table and extra seating.

Open downtown loft designs require the creation of enclosed storage areas. This is especially crucial in the loft bedroom or kitchen where there is a need for closet, pantry and cabinet space. Where space is a premium, a mezzanine floor can be added for extra square footage if required. Mezzanines are ideal for bedrooms, providing additional privacy in such a large open space.

The advantage of a loft apartment is that it is often a large empty room so it’s completely up to you to decide where the various living spaces should be. If loft living suits your lifestyle – create a space that is truly unique and all about you!

Wine is often enjoyed as a drink among friends, but did you ever notice that wines enjoyed at the table are just as often the ingredients of major recipes? When did this happen or were we all too warm and fuzzy to even notice? Explore wine as a flavoring for holiday cooking and enter a brave and scrumptious new world. You might even want to re-visit at other times of the year as well.Although there are many wonderful spices and seasonings available throughout the culinary cosmos, there is truly nothing that intensifies and enhances the flavor of food as much as wine does. Apart from the virtues of taste that we all enjoy, wine releases flavors in food that are unique. However, there are some things to watch for while cooking with it, and none of them involve drinking too much or finding someone to drive you home.Probably the most important rule of thumb is never to cook with a wine you would not drink. Most cooking wines on the market today are truly terrible, and as such can only add a terrible flavor to whatever you are preparing. If it tastes like vinegar in the bottle, it will introduce the same flavor to your cas-serole. (Consider that old expression about quacking like a duck, walking like a duck and looking like a duck.) Buy a nice bottle (not too

cheap and not too costly) and always be aware that whatever flavor the wine has will be transported to your dish. It’s also important to know that when wine is used as flavoring it should simmer with the recipe because it takes time for the flavor to take hold. You should also wait about ten minutes after adding an initial dose and taste before adding any more. The flavor of any wine can overpower the best of dishes quite easily. If added late in the cooking process, it can also impart a harsh taste. Also, do not use aluminum or cast-iron pans when cooking anything with wine. Stick with enamel and other non-reactive cookware. Generally speaking, when a recipe calls for water, it can be replaced with the same amount of wine. A tablespoon or two can also enhance the flavors of gravies, oils and marinades.Red or white is the eternal question revolving around the wine mulberry bush. Some say red wine with meat and white with fish and some say, well, other things. Don’t worry about what others say or about what tradition dictates is proper and fitting for this time of year. Let your own tastebuds be your guide.About the Author: Written by John WilliamsJ. Have you ever wondered why the people of Greece and Spain enjoy longer lives with low rates of heart disease and cancer? Experts now believe that these healthy statistics can be attributed to the foods they eat.

In general, Mediterranean foods are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and heart-healthy Omega-3 fatty acids. The Mediterranean acquires these vital nutrients from a diet which includes fish, vegetables, fruits, nuts and olive oil. In fact, many Americans have joined in on this healthy revolution by taking up the Mediterranean diet to lose weight and enjoy the many health benefits associated with weight loss.

Key Beneficial Ingredients

There are a variety of foods enjoyed by the Mediterranean. Omega-3 fatty acids are gained from foods like tuna, mackerel, anchovies, olives, and even olive oil. Salads include a wide array of vegetables like tomatoes, spinach, and avocado, which are high in vitamins and antioxidants. Peppers and artichokes are often used as side dishes or are incorporated into recipes. Fruits are also liberally enjoyed, ranging from strawberries and lemons to oranges and plums. With foods like these, it’s no surprise that the Mediterranean live longer and healthier lives than most modern countries.

Seldom-used Ingredients

While you can enjoy a nice, colorful palette, Mediterranean foods rarely include red meat, butter, spreads, white pasta, or creamy sauces. These

are lower-ranked foods that offer the lowest nutrients, and the Mediterranean rarely consumes these products. Instead, they fill their plates with natural foods cooked in olive oil. In the absence of such foods, Mediterranean dishes are much healthier and offer key vitamins and nutrients that are great for the body.

Health Benefits of Mediterranean Food

Because red meat and butter are usually filled with saturated fats, consuming these foods can cause weight gain, heart problems, and ailments related to obesity. In Medi-terranean states, these foods are replaced with fish and vegetables, which are better for your health. In addition, they prepare all their food in olive oil.

Olive oil is known to be great for your digestive system and is loaded with vitamins like A, B-1, B-2, D, E, and more. Using olive oil in place of butter or other oils may help those with heart problems. When sweetening foods, honey is used. Honey has many known benefits and can work wonders for diabetes patients.

For those looking to lose weight, Mediterranean food may be the answer. Because the diet is so colorful with vegetables, fruits, and high-protein foods, weight loss may come naturally in the absence of sugar and saturated fats. In addition to losing weight, problems associated with obesity may significantly improve.

As you can tell, there are many benefits to eating Mediterranean food. Not only is it healthy for the body, it will please your taste buds and make a fantastic presentation at the kitchen table. Try Mediterranean food; your body will thank you!

Summary:

Mediterranean food contains many benefits including weight loss, heart disease prevention, and in lowering your chances of cancer. This lifestyle and diet are rich in vital nutrients, and can be prepared in many ways. Mediterranean food offers a great variety of ingredients that anyone can enjoy, and it can easily be incorporated into any diet.

Today, almost 1 million acres of forest disappear each week. This alarming rate of deforestation is forcing many world economies to rethink their business and manufacturing practices. A seventy-foot tree cut for its lumber takes 65 years to replace. A seventy-foot bamboo cut for market can be replaced in less than 3 months, as bamboo is officially recognized as the world’s fastest growing plant. Some species can grow 3 feet per day!

Driven by the constantly-growing consumer demand for environmentally friendly products, many bamboo-re-lated companies are gaining momentum as a reliable source for high quality and durable green building materials. Consumers are choosing high quality alternative building materials over traditional non-sustainable products. Hybrid cars, recycled materials, reusable energy sources, bamboo flooring; use of these products is exploding as consumers are recognizing the need to choose products of a sustainable and regenerative nature.

The general population is becoming weary of ever-decreasing hardwood forests and the threat that this deforestation poses to an already fragile global environment. Bamboo flooring is the logical and ethical choice. Since bamboo is termite, moisture and rot resistant, it functions extremely well as a prime flooring material.

There are multiple types of bamboo floors sold that cater to unique tastes. Strand woven bamboo flooring is twice as resilient as regular wood flooring and has a hybrid grain that is between wood and bamboo. Distressed bamboo floors look antique as if they were pulled out of an old barn. Engineered/laminate bamboo floors are highly stable and great for basements and in areas of varying humidity.

Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth. It is known to produce 30% more oxygen than a hardwood forest of comparable size, while preventing erosion, restoring soil, providing sweet edible shoots and removing toxins from contaminated soil. Ecologists tout bamboo as a logical, renewable source of building materials. Many promote bamboo planting for erosion prevention, and even to reverse the effects of global warming.

Bamboo helps reduce carbon dioxide gases blamed for global warming. Bamboo removes significant quantities of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, which makes it a highly efficient plant, and conducive to fresh air. Being a grass, bamboo regenerates without replanting after harvesting.

Bamboo is a natural water control barrier. Because of its widespread root system and large canopy, bamboo greatly reduces rain run off, preventing soil erosion. Bamboo can keep up to twice as much water in a

watershed. Due to its high nitrogen consumption, bamboo helps mitigate water pollution, making it a solution for excess nutrient uptake of wastewater from manufacturing, livestock farming and sewage treatment.

Bamboo can restore degraded lands. It is a remarkable plant and can be grown in soil damaged by overgrazing and poor agriculture practices. Proper harvesting does not kill the bamboo plant, therefore topsoil is held in place. Because of its dense litter on the forest floor, it feeds topsoil creation, restoring healthy agricultural lands for generations to come.

Traditional hardwood lumber trees, such as oak, maple, and birch, take 40-50 years to regenerate. In the meantime, there is less oxygen produced, less carbon dioxide consumed, and more soil runoff in the spot where those trees were harvested - all producing negative environmental effects. Our planet is suffering from resource depletion, habitat loss, species extinc-tion, and ecosystem pollution. The choice of bamboo flooring will greatly help reverse those negative trends.

The booming real estate market has greatly expanded the uses for kitchen bar stools. You may be asking your-self how real estate and bar stools tie together. Well it’s actually very simple and practical. The two main areas of a home that catch the attention of potential buyers are the bathrooms and the kitchen. They are the main selling features of any home. How do the bar stools come into play? Let’s take a look.

Kitchens now-a-days are the main area of the house where the family spends most of their time. Everyone eats meals, does their homework, reads, and even en-tertains in this area. This being the case, the kitchens of today are getting pretty intricate in their designs along with expanding in size. The homeowners are trying to include every aspect possible into this space. This will in-clude separate breakfast areas, seating areas, and lots of countertop space. Here is where the barstools come into play. Because of all these extras, the uses for kitchen bar stools is at a premium.

They’re required for the seating at the breakfast bar or nook along with extra seating under the counter over-hangs. This allows everyone to get in on all the different action that takes place in the kitchen. You won’t find any better used for kitchen bar stools than for entertaining a group of friends who like to hang out at the kitchen coun-ter and talk to chef who is preparing the meals.

When it comes to the family the uses for kitchen bar stools goes far beyond partying and entertainment. Sure it’s still included but it’s not as important. A lot of the good quality time with families takes place when you don’t even notice in the kitchen. Kids and parents can do homework together. Mom and dad can talk about their day and discuss up coming ideas.

The most important thing about bar stools in the kitchen is of course to eat. With the busy schedules that everyone has today it’s rare that a family gets to sit down and eat a whole meal together. It’s usually just a few members at a time that are eating for a quick breakfast in the morn-ing or an on the go dinner at night before running off to baseball practice.

What ever your situation entails you’ll find there are a huge number of uses for kitchen bar stools right in your own home. If you haven’t experience the fun and togeth-erness these great pieces of furniture can bring you’ve been missing out. Don’t delay any longer, go out and get yourself some great bar stools to enjoy with your family today.

Have you recently been shopping for a new refrigerator? Did you know that your old refrigerator can be recycled through your utility company? Before you purchase your new refrigerator, you may want to find out how much will it cost to recycle your old one, instead of simply hauling it away. First, you need to consider purchasing an Energy Star qualified refrigerator. You will save significantly in lower operating costs over the life of the unit, because these refrigerators are so much more efficient than the older, traditional models. They use at least fifteen percent less energy than is required by federal standards and forty percent less energy than conventional refrigerators that were sold as recently as 2001.Most utility companies will give you up to a twenty five dollar rebate when you purchase a new Energy Star refrigerator from a qualifying retailer in your county. However, this is if you agree to recycle the old refrigerator. The twenty five dollar rebate will help offset the price difference between an Energy Star and a non Energy Star model. Your annual energy savings will more than make up any remaining difference, plus you will receive the rebate from the retailer at the time you buy your refrigerator.

Recycling is free if your old refrigerator is still working and you live in the participating county and are a utility customer of the util-ity company offering the rebate. The refrigerator has to be at least fourteen cubic feet in size. The program also is

open to qualifying customers who want to get rid of an extra refrigerator or freezer that they no longer need. Many utility companies have been offering this program to their customers since the beginning of 2005 and have picked up and recycled more than four thousand units a year. Instead of ending up in some landfill, these old units were broken apart and recycled into new uses. They have begun this program because older refrigerators, which were manufactured before 1995, have hazardous components and materials that harm the environment if exposed or left in landfills. These older refrigerators and freezers typically contain

chlorofluorocarbon, or CFC, refrigerant, which can deplete the ozone layer above the earth. These utility companies will use a licensed contractor, who is certified to handle these dangerous substances and safely remove them from refrigerators before recycling them.Every unit they get is completely reused in some manner or another, because they pump all of the CFCs into a cylinder that is taken to a firm in that will repackage them to be reused. After removing the refrigerator’s compressor and draining its oil, which also is recycled, then they will remove and separate the aluminum, steel, and non-metal material such as foam, plastic and glass. They go this extra mile, simply because the metal is so valuable today, plus they separate all the copper wiring as well.At that point, the remains of the refrigerator are shredded and the scrap is sent overseas, where it is transformed into new products. In addition, to the environmental benefits, the energy savings are significant. Refrigerators that were manufactured before the 1990s, were terribly inefficient compared to today’s models. While it might seem like a good idea to put it in the garage or basement for extra storage, you will find that the amount of electricity these old units use make that storage extremely expensive. Depending on the model, the cost to operate an old refrigerator can run up to twelve dollars a month, sometimes even more.About the Author: Written by Victor EpandVictor Epand is an expert consultant for home goods, home supplies, home automation and security. The January birthstone is Garnet. Birthstone Color: Deep Red One glance at the deep red seeds nestled inside of a pomegranate fruit explains why the word “garnet” comes from the Latin word “granatus,” meaning “grain” or “seed.” This name was given to the garnet because of its close resemblance to the succulent pomegranate seed. But don’t bite into a garnet, because at Moh’s hardness 6.5 to 7.5, it will definitely damage the teeth!

There are many myths and legends surrounding the garnet. One Biblical legend is that Noah hung this gem on the ark to light his way through the dark and stormy nights of God’s wrath. A Greek myth linked to the garnet is the story of the young goddess of sunshine, Persephone, who was abducted by Hades, god of the

underworld. Hades eventually released Persephone, but not before he offered her some pomegranate seeds, which guaranteed her return to him.

First mined in Sri Lanka over 2,500 years ago, the garnet is also found in Africa, Australia, India, Russia, South America; and in the United States, in Arizona and Idaho. Although most commonly known as a red gemstone, the garnet comes in a variety of other hues, including muted yellows, vibrant oranges, rosy pinks, lime greens, and violets—a virtual bouquet of colors. This diversity is due to unique combinations of elements within each particular gem, such as iron, calcium, and manganese.

Archaeologist findings of primitive style garnet jewelry among the graves of lake dwellers dates the early use of this gemstone to the Bronze age. But not all garnet is of gem quality. It is also a very effective abrasive and is used commercially for grinding and polishing. Garnet coated sandpaper is one such industrial use.

The garnet continues to be the protective gem of journeyers. A gift of garnet is thought to be symbolic of love and the desire for a loved one’s safe travel and speedy homecoming. It is January’s birthstone, but far from being only a winter gem, the garnet, with its brilliance and multitude of colors, is truly one for any season.

During long, cold winters, dogs and their owners may need a little more exercise. This article shows you some fun ways you can play with your dog indoors. Some of you may have been told never to play tug of war with a dog. The fear is that it might make a dog aggressive or aggravate any possessive tendencies. Other trainers feel that there is nothing wrong with the game, as long as you follow certain rules: 1)The toy you choose must be long enough to avoid accidental injury. A thick rope with knots in the middle is good. 2)The game should be played only with the tug toy. Teach your dog a command such as “drop it” or “leave it” before you start playing. (It’s a good idea to do this even if you never intend to play tug. That way if he wants to play with your shoe, you can simply ask him to drop it.) Never try to pull anything away from the dog, use your command instead. 3)You must be in control of the game. You decide when to play. Keep the toy out of sight in between games. You should win at least most of the time. When you decide you’ve had enough, simply say “that’s enough” and ask the dog to “drop it.” Always stop immediately if the dog gets too excited or puts his mouth on your hand. Another game you can play is hide and seek. There are two ways to play this game; either you can hide and encourage your dog to find you, or you can hide toys or treats around the house and ask the dog to find them. If you are to be the target, simply have the dog stay while you go into another room. At first don’t go far, and hide in an easy spot. Then call the dog with “Come find me!” or something like that. Continue to call as long as you need to. Reward the dog for finding you with treats, excited praise, belly rubs ‘ anything he loves. Once your dog gets the idea, you can hide in more difficult spots, and call less often.

To use treats or toys as the objects to find, start by hiding a treat under or behind something while your dog watches, then exclaim, “Find it!” in an excited voice. Once he gets the rules of the game, have the dog stay in one room while you hide treats in another. If your dog likes to use his nose, try hiding the treats inside shoes, under rugs, be-tween couch cushions and places like that. For other dogs you may want to put most of the treats in plain view. Break up large treats so that you are not giving him too many. Toys can be used if your dog has a strong prey drive, or if the he is overweight. You can also try some brain teasers with your dog. For one, find three boxes of the same size. Have the dog sit and stay, facing the boxes. Place a treat inside or under-neath an overturned box. Release the dog and allow him to find the box the treat is in. Eventually you can begin hiding the treat with the dog facing away from the boxes. Here’s another puzzle the dog can work on. Place a morsel of food on a flat plate. Cover the plate with a towel or inverted foil pie tin. If using the tin, make a small lip in it so the dog can smell the food. If the dog is good at working things out, he should soon at least try to get the towel or pie tin off of the plate to get to the food. You can increase the difficulty by placing the plate under a chair or other obstacle. Give him a way to get it out, such as placing it on a towel or attaching a rope to the plate. Don’t let the dog get too frustrated with these games ‘ if he’s not quite up to it, help him along and let him have the treat anyway. There are toys that you can buy that will keep the dog busy on his own. A number of toys are now made to dispense treats. These are balls or cubes in which you place small treats. When the toy is overturned, the treats come out. You can even feed the dog this way, placing his daily ration in the treat toy. Also on the market are some puzzle toys such as the Iqube and Puzzle Pup by Kyjen. These are similar to those made for toddlers. Instead of putting rings on a stick, or shapes in a box, the dog takes the toys out of a container. Most of these are plush toys, and might not be suitable for some aggressive chewers. These are just a few suggestions, use your imagination and your dog’s abilities to come up with even more games you can play indoors. Automotive

Eleanor is not a person but a muscle car. This Gone in 60 Seconds 1967 Mustang is the complete embodiment of what muscle cars are all about. Usually powered by a V8 engine, muscle cars were monsters of drag racing world back in the 1960’s until early portion of 1980’s. With extremely powerful torque, these cars are really going to give you a jaw-dropping ride. Muscle cars are no doubt fast cars with high horse power capability. The moment you look at such cars, the first things you will see are their bulky curves and high-performance z rated tires which are true affirmation of the reputation that muscle autos are very much known of. Muscle cars are different from sports cars we have today though some models are inspired by cars like the Ford Mustang. Though sports cars are fast cars like muscle autos, they surely won’t last a minute with the supreme torque that muscle autos have - which perhaps makes Eleanor the perfect Gone in 60 Seconds car. The interiors of muscle cars are real statement of high performance, road warrior type of vehicle. The almost nil sign of elegance and the all heart-pumping design of muscle autos’ interiors match their rock and revving integrity that many a cars today try to copy but all in futility. The moment you turn it on, you can’t help but notice the fiery breathing of muscle car’s engine. The hissing and guzzling is like that of a dragon sleeping always ready to get the tracks burning. When you hit the gas, the dragon’s V8 engine charges in an instant ready to devour all things that block its way... just like when vin Diesel of

The Fast and The Furious rages against the wall and hits the road with such awesome roar. If what you are looking for is the car with an attitude that never allows being a second rater, muscle autos are the right choice. But prepare to be awestruck with the price because as of now it’s of a collector’s item kind of thing since you can not easily find one in the market. However, there are companies and groups that want to bring back muscle cars on the road and these groups are actually buying old muscle autos and reconditioning them to make them roadworthy again. There are a number of reconditioned muscle cars that can still be found nowadays. There is the all-time favorite 1966 GT 40, 1970 Superbird, 1968 Shelby GT500KR Fastback or 1969 Barracuda Convertible. These models of cars were once kings of the road in the 1960’s up to early part of 1980’s. Although muscle autos are now rare species, there are a number of clubs that relive the greatness of muscle cars. These groups stage races and events all with the purpose of having some fun and reminiscing those days when muscle autos ruled the streets. And thanks to the Internet, people around the world who share common interest in muscle cars now have a dependable means to show-case the glory of muscle autos and allow the younger generation to see the real muscle in high-performance driving via muscle cars.

Lamborghini, or Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. as it’s officially called, produces some of the most exciting sports cars in the word. Some of the newer Lamborghini models are the Countach, the Diablo, the Gallardo and the Murcielago. Fact 1: Lamborghini is named after the founder of the company Ferruccio Lamborghini (1916-1993). Ferruccio Lamborghini founded the company in 1963 when he was 47 years old. The factory is located in a small Italian village called Sant’Agata Bolognese near Bologna.

Fact 2: Ferruccio Lamborghini was a successful tractor manufacturer before he got interested in sports cars. His interest in sports cars made him buy many different high-performance cars including both Maseratis and Ferraris, but he was never really happy with any of them and therefore decided to built his own, perfect sports car, Fact 3: Lamborghini used to be an independent company, but today it is a subsidiary of the German company Audi AG. Audi AG became the owner of Lamborghini in 1998. Lamborghini went bankrupt in 1978 and was sold to Chrysler a long time before Audi AG became the sole owner of the company. Fact 4: The fastest Lamborghini is the Le Mans version of the Murcielago R-GT model. It has been reported to have a top speed of 370 km/h. The fastest street model from Lamborghini is the Murcielago LP640 with an estimated top speed of 340 km/h. Both of the models have a V12 engine with more than 6000 cc. Fact 5: Several of the newer Lamborghini models feature the familiar Lamborghini scissor doors that rotate up and forward on a hinge near the front of the door. The Countach, the Diablo and the Murcielago all have scissor doors, but the Gallardo does not. Both the Countach and the Diablo are no longer being produced, so the Murcielago is the only current model with scissor doors. Fact 6: No Lamborghini have ever been produced with less than a V8 engine. Most of the Lamborghini models

throughout the history of the company have come with the legendary Lamborghini V12 engine, but the newest model, Gallardo, only have a V10 engine. No Lamborghini models with a V8 engine have been since production of the Silhouette stopped in 1989.

Fact 7: The first Lamborghini was the 350GTV from 1963. It was extremely fast for its time with a top speed of 280 km/h. In 1964 a smaller version of the 350GTV appeared. The smaller version was called 350GT and had a top speed of 240 km/h. The Countach from 1974 was the first Lamborghini to go faster than 300 km/h. Fact 8: In 1975 did Walter Wolf, a rich Canadian business-man and F1 racing team owner, persuade Lamborghini to produce three super powered Countach models. The Wolf Countach had the same engine as the orginal Countach prototype and were able to reach a top speed of 315 km/h.

About The Author: Written by Mads Phican Lamborghini must be considered one of the world’s most exciting sports cars. If you are in any way interested in Lamborghini, you should go and check out the popular website http://www.lamborghini-wallpaper.com for more information. Is this crazy? Or does it make sense? Bugatti, a small car company bankrolled by Volkswagen (VW), has brought out the Veyron 16.4 with a top speed of 248 mph – and the car was tested at the speed on the fastest track Volkswagen could find in Europe!

Nowhere else would allow the car to get to that speed and be timed for long enough to say it actually could do this. The previous record for a production car was 242 mph round the Nardo track in Italy – and that required a great deal of skill by the driver to keep the car on the banked track!

This sort of speed – and the power to get there - are pretty much off the planet, but since then, other companies - with a fraction of the resources of Bugatti – have decided they should aim for 250 mph. ‘What for?’, you might ask. I guess it is a bit like saying the moon is there so let’s go there.

W-16, 1,001 bhp engine

The Bugatti Veyron is a very impressive car, powered by a W-16-cylinder 8.0 liter engine developing 1,001 bhp. The ‘4’ stands for the four turbochargers needed to boost the engine to that amount of power. The whole Bugatti project was the idea of Dr Ferdinand Piech, then chairman of the VW Group. He wanted VW to build a car to showcase technology and to move the goal posts so no one could get close. Evidently, during testing this engine was proved to be reliable when producing 1,200 bhp.

The car does showcase technology. The engine is similar to the W-12 installed in the Audi A8 and S8, and in turbocharged form in the Bentley Continental GT and Flying Spur.

The gearbox is also based on VW Group technology. It is a seven-speed sequential box with automatic or manual shifting. It has a dual clutch arrangement so that when you change gear the power continues to be transmitted all the time, one clutch disengaging exactly at the moment the other engages. Stunning technology that really delivers benefits.

The same concept is available in six-speed form in the VW Golf, Audi A3 and S3. It is called DSG. Of course, the Bugatti has a special version of this concept, made by Ricardo, a powertrain specialist in the UK.

The Bugatti has a carbon fiber structure, suspension like a racing car, and two large air intakes in the roof to keep that huge engine cool. Of course, the

engine is mounted behind the driver and passenger but forward of the rear wheels.

Most exotic cars have rear-wheel drive, but the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 has so much power that it has four-wheel drive. Actually, some Audis, including the 450 bhp RS4, and all Lamborghinis - also in the VW Group - now have four-wheel drive. Again, the Bugatti is showcasing group technology

If you are wondering why four-wheel drive is needed, just think about it. With two-wheel drive there would be 500 bhp going through each tire! Most makers of supercars and exotic cars think that 300 bhp per tire is plenty.

Ok, so the Bugatti was timed at 248 mph, and reaches 60 mph in less than 3 seconds. Did the other makers of exotic cars give up, and say: ‘Well, we can’t match that’?

No, Pagani, produced the 650 bhp Zonda F with an option of 700 bhp. Saleen upped the power output of its S7 to 750 bhp, while Ferrari produced a few FXXs with 850 bhp, and Maserati also has a version of the MC-12 developing 750 bhp or so.

On the other hand Koenigsegg decided not to pursue the power race for the time being at least. After all its CCR has a 806 bhp engine, and was timed at 242 mph. Instead, Koenigsegg has introduced the CCX which is designed to meet US regulations and is a more practical street machine.

Others have decided to go for maximum power including one of the tuners of Porsche 911s. Then, a small British company is introducing a car with a turbocharged 7.0 liter V-8 with a power output of 1,000 bhp. They say that the engine could be tuned to 1,200 bhp.

More will follow down this route to madness. Me? I’d go for the 500 -600 bhp myself in a car that really handles and is very, very responsive. Like a Pagani Zonda or an Ascari KZ1.

We would have been still constructing the Panama Canal but for the modern gigantic construction equipments. These Herculean machines made life easy for us by their enormous strengths and capacities for long drawn heavy duties under all torturous conditions. To think that these engineering marvels work for reclaiming lands from bays, striking piles into the hard sea beds or drilling tunnels deep below the sea beds (Trans European Tunnel connecting England to France), is mind boggling. The list can go endless but for the scope of this article which is limited.

Equipments to Suit All NeedsConstruction equipments may be classified as per needs and further by capacities.

1.Excavating and Earth moving: These gigantic machines are hydraulically operated to safeguard from shock failures. These are the first machines to be employed for preparing the con-struction sites. Land leveling by digging and cutting terrains are done by excava-tors of appropriate capacities which run

into 1000s of HP. Basic earth movers include dozers, tippers and loaders.

2.Concrete processors: Batch or continuous concrete mixers are computer programmed for consistent precise mix. These are stationed permanently near the site or in the factory depend-ing on convenience. Small batch mixers of less than one quintal capacities are portable. The

concrete is transported from far off plants in transit mixers of minimum capacity 6 cubic meters by volume. Concrete is poured to the spot using concrete pumps.

3.Bar bending machines: Small high torque generating bar bending machines are handy in bending and forming construction steel bars. These are available in various specifications.

4.Rollers and compactors: Rollers are employed to compact the ground after dozers have leveled it. Some rollers are also equipped with vibrating compactors eliminating the need for separate compacting. For small areas like indoors vibrating plate compactors, which generate up to 1000kgf maybe used. These are just about the equipments fundamentally required for construction of homes and offices.

Road ConstructionFor road construction, depending on whether the road is being asphalted or concretized, the equipments change. Asphalt mixers and asphalt pavers take-up the job of road laying to perfection. Concrete road pavers, although work on similar principle, can’t finish the road-laying as concrete needs setting time.

There is a need for faster laying technique. Road surface finishing is by a technique called VDF, which stands for vacuum dewatered flooring. Smoother finishes are given by power trowels and anti skid finishes by brooms, mechanized or manual. Roads such as speedway lanes would benefit greatly from this technique. Now shouldn’t we pay tribute to these kind machines?

Would you enjoy a sport that is exhilarat-ing and provides hours of fun for the whole family? Would you like to be engaged in a sport that places you in midst of beautiful mountains, hidden forests, or wide-open fields? Then perhaps snowmobiling is the sport for you. Snowmobiling is a winter activity that has been around a long time and more and more people are getting in on it each year. Many families are purchasing their own snowmobile as a way to become part of the fun. There are so many reasons why you might want to take up snowmobiling.

1. Snowmobiling is fun, lots of fun! If you try it, you’ll love it!

2. Snowmobiling is exhilarating. Similar to skiing, snowboarding, or skating, this sport gets you out and in the center of the winter wonderland. It feels wonderful to have the cold fresh air surrounding you as you race along the ice and snow. It makes you feel alive.

3. Snowmobiling is a sport that the entire family can enjoy, young and old. Similar to skiing, everyone can get in on the action and be part of the fun.

4. You have many options for riding in snowmobiling. You might be able to ride in your own backyard, through the neighborhood after a snowstorm, or on a vast snow-covered sprawling field beneath the mountains.

5. Snowmobile trails are in plentiful, especially for people who live in colder climates. If you live in a warmer climate, you may not have to travel far as far as you think to get to a place where snowmobiling is offered.

6. You do not need to own a snowmobile to engage in this sport. There are plenty of places that rent snowmobiles. This may be the right thing for you to do as a start. You may want to consider purchasing a snowmobile in the future.

7. Snowmobiling is a different kind of activity from your normal routine. It gets you off the couch and in the great outdoors, even on the coldest dreariest winter day.

8. Snowmobiling is not cost prohibitive. While the initial cost of the snowmobile may be substantial, there are not many other fees involved when using your vehicle.

9. You can explore. There are many beautiful trails that you can try that will take your breath away. You can go on a self guided tour or on a guided tour, as long as you are aware of the snowmobile trail conditions.

10. Snowmobiling can provide you with that alone time you may so desperately need. Riding by yourself may prove a wonderful contrast to your daily hectic workweek.

11. Snowmobiling can be a social sport. There are many riding groups that plan outings together. You can easily find one on the Internet.

12. Snowmobiling is a great way to capture scenery. If you like taking pictures, just take a ride and photograph the magnificence around you.

13. You can build a vacation around snowmobiling. Most winter resorts or ski areas have nearby trails for snowmobiling if you are looking for a fun place to go on vacation in the winter. Winter snowmobile vacations are ideal for couples, singles and families.

14. With snowmobiling, you will develop some toughness and rigor. Being on this huge machine is fun, but being out in the blistering cold does require some toughness.

One of the most fun experiences while hunting is spending time with your hunting dog. Hunting dogs aren’t all about business. They are also a great companion with you when you are out stalking your prey. If you like to go hunting a lot, you should always bring a hunting dog with you so that you don’t get lonely. Unfortunately, it can sometimes be hard to transport hunting dogs to the locations you plan to hunt at. The best way to do it is with hunting dog boxes. These are dog carrier units that can fit in the bed of a truck or can be towed behind a car. This is especially helpful for bigger dogs that take up too much space in the car. This can be a seeing hazard otherwise. In these situations, you should use a dog box to transport your dog in. There are even dog boxes that can be affixed to ATVs. If you are planning on getting a dog box to help with transportation, there are some hunting dog box supplies that you can get to help you along the way.

One of the best hunting dog box supplies is a blanket. Most dog boxes are very hard and angular. This can be very uncomfortable for the dog. If you put a blanket on the bottom of the box before the dog gets in, it will likely have a much better time. Although it’s a very simple idea, these hunting dog box supplies are super important to the well-

being of the dog. It can be fairly stressful to ride around in a box, so their comfort is important.

Other good hunting dog box supplies to get are those that help affix the dog box to the bed of a truck. If you are driving to the location in a truck, there probably won’t be any room for the dog in the cabin. Instead, you should strap the dog box into the bed of the truck. This will ensure that it doesn’t slide around or fly out. Again, this protects the well-being of your dog. You can also get hunting dog box supplies that hook it to a trailer that tails along behind your car. Not every hunter has the benefit of owning a truck. For those that use a car instead, a trailer hitch for the dog box is best. This is a much bumpier ride for the dog, so try to use this method only for short trips. This way the dog will still be up for hunting once you get there.

One of the many things that science offers, or at least makes a good attempt to, is the explanation of things that do not make sense. In other words, it puts a theory into practise and seeks out the result previously predicted or discovers something completely new. This basic introduction into the world of science has made it possible to explain and change the way we work and has man-aged to rationalise the way we think.

There are different branches of science, which most people will know as chemistry, biology and physics. Within these groups are further branches that target and concentrate on a particular area of expertise. Scientific study sees change rapidly more than any other field of study, one in particular is the field of biochemistry and biotechnology. Biotechnology is technology based on biology, focussing on agriculture, food science and medicine. Refined experiments and chemical analysis are just a few of the methods used for biotechnological labs.

An interesting part of scientific experimentation is the use of colour to separate and analyse complex mixtures, known as chromatography. This is usually seen in the world of chemistry whereby analysing solutions is an important element of testing chemicals, chromatography helps to determine much of the ele-ments needed to identify its consistency and solution. These can go two ways, it can be preparatory or analytical, both of which measure for different results.

Preparatory deals with separating a mixture of its components for further use and testing. This is in some respect known as purification. Analytical uses a smaller amount of materials and

measures the relative amounts of analytes in a mixture. Both of these methods are not mutually exclusive from each other.

History will tell that this process derives from its literal meaning of colour writing began its usage and hearing its name more in the earlier part of the 20th century. Chromatography itself spans from the 19th century and is still a strong scientific study that plays an important part in our lives. This was predominantly used for separating plant pigmentation such as chlorophyll. As new forms of chromatography developed during the 1930s and 1940s, new techniques were used in biochemistry and for a wider range of separation processing and chemical analysis.

Mikhail Semyonovich Tsvet, Russian botanist, was the true pioneer of how part of chromatography techniques are used today. He used columns of calcium carbonate for separating plant pigmentation when he had spent the first decade researching chlorophyll. The modern technique followed suit with the work of Archer John Porter Martin and Richard Laurence Millington Synge, with their work focusing on the principles of partition chromatography. This then later branched into many different methods such as paper, gas and high performance liquid chromatography.

It soon became clear that this kind of technology was beginning to grow rapidly, with researchers finding that the underlying principles of Tsvets method could be applied in many different ways, which then gave way to many different varieties. Further advances continued to see the improvement of technical performances meaning that similar molecules could be separated.

These techniques have continued to advance and improve as the years have passed, allowing complex solutions and mixtures to be separated with precision. Similar components such as protein can be separated even if it varies by a single amino acid. In the field of biotechnology the need for purification and accurate chemical analysis depends upon the techniques of chromatography; therefore it is essential that this stays a focused method of experimentation.
