Attributes of an Air power unit

Academic Project :

•Brief – To redesign a mobile air power unit addressing its aesthetics and ergonomical attributes.

• Design process involved intense field research, interviews, data collection, audio-visual documentation.

•The final output evolved as revival of external Canopy addressing safety and user convenience, design of internal architecture for better usability and alternative material suggestions based on Life cycle analysis(LCA).

• A better product identical value created & usage of international standards in an otherwise passé market

A luminaire family for industrial bay area & Retail spaces

•Brief was to phase out this range of industrial bay luminaire

•The process resulted in a product platform featuring 6 families and 50+ product variants that can cater varied range of applications.

•This is either a bay luminaire for industrial atmosphere with stringent ingress protection(TECHNIK) or a pendant luminaire for a bustling retail space (RHYTM).

Intuitive locking mechanism

•I was set out to create a product that could be maintained with a single tool (screw driver) and installed without a manual – these were the key insights from my ethnographic research .

•Design process involved detailed research and analysis of all stages in the product lifecycle right from raw material sourcing, storage, component manufacturing, assembly, packaging, logistics etc.

•The project outcome was able to overcome major pitfalls in the product lifecycle, An extensive application of basic physics principles paved intuitive access points, safety locks and better thermal management.

•Spot light range for accent lighting applications.

•Design emphasizes clean looks and monoque construction.

•The approach was to re-interpret the common functionality-cool touch points for adjustments-luminaiare family for retail space-physical and thermal stability-flexible adjustments and self-locking

•Mounting options include surface, wall, floor & main voltage tracks.

VERVE

•A streetlight range for cooler lamp sources.

•An extensive field study to gain insights in to product usage, Conducted series of interviews with decision makers to understand the product selection and validation process.

•Output realized is a zero light pollution luminaire packed in sleekest possible dimension, monocular construction with no outcrops and an Intuitive installation system to cater variety of mounting possibilities.

•Careful layout of clutter free internal architecture for ‘single step, tool less’ maintenance.

Design research for a water filtration brand

•Project is aimed at evolving Design strategies for transforming a filtration component manufacturer into a product manufacturer.

•The process involved a series of desk and field research to understand design trends in products and spaces, desired product architecture, cotemporary products and mapping. Also, there were intense interaction sessions with sales and front end team to understand their brand perception and product related insights.

•The final output evolved as a series of fidelity ideas, product configurations, and a basic product portfolio for the brand to build upon.

Ethnography

Lifestyle segmentation

•Brief – To design a gravity fed, non-electric water purifier at a constrained price point.

•The process started with ethnographic research in homes and retail markets which helped us gain insights into specific user semiotics, demographical differences, spacial design characteristics and constraints, consumer buying patterns etc.

•Carried out intensive analysis of contemporary products, their ecosystem, design trends, technologies using various design and analysis tools.

•The outcome was a product with an unique design language and intuitive user interaction points aimed at addressing hygiene, health and user convenience.

•Design proposal included a sustainable product ecosystem and a new business model where consumables of the product is recycled in a technical metabolism.

Life guard station

Before Re-design

•Design brief was to re-design the existing range of life guard station.

•Process involved user interviews, design research and investigation into existing product eco-system, build materials and manufacturing.

•We identified major gap areas in build materials, manufacturing, shipping and product assembly.

•An extensive value engineering helped in bringing down the product weight and freight cost drastically.

•The outcome evolved as a product with simple manufacturing methods using 100% recycled raw materials, quick on-site assembly with a single /no tool.

Eco-Iconic luminaire family

•The brief was to design the next generation of suspended luminaire range for workspaces.

•We began by intense interviews with all stake holders of the product viz., architects , builders, end users, maintenance staff etc. Did an extensive research to understand indian work space design trends, analysed patterns in future architectural projects.

•Carried out Ethnography and field research to gain relevant insights in installation, system configuration at site, maintenance and troubleshooting.

•Design ideas evolved as a celebration of pure geometry with insights from architectural and interior design trends which were a set of two product families to complement the two parallel design trends prevailed.

Eco-Iconic luminaire family

• The masculine family EDGE is a portrayal of intelligence & essential geometry, depicts sleekness & transparency.

• The feminine family CURVE is an evolution of metal-less philosophy, depicts lucidity and light.

•Designed with Core Sustainability principles - First of its kind Indian luminaire range designed to leave a healthy footprint through out its life cycle by efficient use of materials and energy.

•Products are more than 90% recyclable and built with more than 30% recycled content, crafted with healthy nutrients that gets into natural or industrial metabolism at the end of life.

•Designed for easy disassembly at the end of life.
