COMPETITION GUIDELINES MEGA CEBU TEACHERS COMPETITION IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE COALITION FOR BETTER EDUCATION 1 MEGA CEBU TEACHERS COMPETITION The objective of this competition is to allow teachers in the Mega Cebu Area to participate in the development of learning resource materials in various subjects under the Kto12 Program. More importantly, the six (6) attributes of Mega Cebu will be integrated in the development of the LRMS. Another aim of the competition is to support DepEd’s call to develop contextualized and localized learning resource materials that can be used in the classroom. MEGA CEBU TEACHERS COMPETITION

The objective of this competition is to allow teachers in the Mega Cebu Area to participate in the

development of learning resource materials in various subjects under the Kto12 Program. More

importantly, the six (6) attributes of Mega Cebu will be integrated in the development of the

LRMS. Another aim of the competition is to support DepEd’s call to develop contextualized and

aims to give recognition to teachers as content developers as we celebrate the 2015 National

Teachers Month.

Please read and follow the instructions carefully:

Teams:

1. Each team should have an English, Science, Math, AP/Filipino, MAPEH /TLE/EPP

Teacher;

2. There are two (2) team classifications:

a. Grades 4 – 6. Combination of teachers coming from these grade levels, and;

b. Grades 7 – 10. Combination of teachers coming from these grade levels.

c. A team can be homogenous, meaning all teachers can come from the same

grade level; however,

d. A team should not be a combination of the two team classification. For example,

a grade 4 and a grade 7 teacher cannot belong to the same team.

3. A team can be a combination of 2 or more schools and/or combination of both private

and public schools. But the schools should be located in the same LGU;

4. A team represents the LGU where the school is located;

5. A team should have a group name. Ex. The Learning Drivers. The group name should

represent the image you want your team to portray.

6. Submit your group name and other details on or before September 8, 2015 to

[email protected] subject heading: Mega Cebu Competition 2015. Use the format

given below:

The Cards:

1. All cards to be developed should focus on the six attributes of MEGA CEBU

(www.megacebu.org ).

2. Cards should be based on the K to12 Curriculum Guide and aligned to the 21st Century

Skills Standards (www.p21.org).

3. Each team will develop the following flashcards regardless of grade level:

a. 10 Know Cards. Measures the ability of students to understand concepts and

apply these concepts to real-life situations. Out of the 10 cards, 5 of these should

focus on knowledge building (what), and 5 should focus on HOTs (why, how).

Type of Questions that can be asked are: What, why, how – open-ended

questions, Fill in the blanks, Multiple choice, enumeration.

Show how each answer to the question in the know card is integrated

contextually to 2 or more core subject areas.

For ex.

Question: What is the main source of energy?

Answer: Sun

Subject Area Integration:

English. (idiomatic expression) Sun can also mean a position of well-being.

Katrina is very focused on her job. She will soon have her place in the sun.

AP. The sun is also used as a means to tell time among Egyptians. They

used sundials to determine the exact position of sun at a given time of the

day.

Math. The sun is 93Million miles away from earth. Converted to Kilometers,

this would be about 149.66Million km.

b. 3 Do Cards. Simple enhancement activities related to the Know cards that

students can do either in teams or individually at home or in school for short

periods of time. These can be in the form of simple experiments, observation-

activities, games, web-quests, scavenger-hunts and other online Educational

Resources, etc. Each Do or Activity Card should include the following content:

1. Card 1 – Title, below it a short description of the Activity

2. Flipside of Card 1 and onwards – Activity/Experiment/Game

3. Card 2 – answer keys, hints.

c. 2 PBL Cards. Performance or product based set of activities that translate

concepts learned in the classroom into real-life situations. These cards follow the

GRASPS method. Each PBL card should include the following content:

1. Title , below it a short description of the PBL

2. Situation or the scenario

3. Detailed Tasks for the students

4. Roles of the students

5. Expected Outputs

6. Assessment / Rubrics

Flash Card Lay-out and Design:

1. Size - All cards must be 8.5 inches x 11 inches or legal size bond paper.

2. Use landscape or horizontal orientation.

3. Card Colors.

d. Know Cards:

i. Question Side of the card: light Yellow

ii. Answer Side of the card: assigned color of the grade level (please refer to

the table below as a guide.

e. Do Cards

i. Task/s Activity side of the card: light Blue

ii. Answer Key ( if applicable): assigned color of the grade level (please refer

to the table below as a guide.

f. PBL Cards

i. Title/Scenario/Tasks/Roles/Outputs – light green

ii. Rubric/s - assigned color of the grade level (please refer to the table

below as a guide.

1. On the upper left corner ,indicate the Grade Level and Topic as

outlined in the K12 Curriculum Guide. Underline the specific topic

discussed in the card.

2. On the lower right corner of the question side of the card, indicate

the type of card inside the CIRCLE and CODE of the K12

Curriculum Guide and 21st Century Skills Standards

(www.p21.org) in the rectangle.

3. Underline the word or words in the Question side of the card to

indicate that these are spelling words or words that can be used in

a sentence.

ii. Answer Side of the card.

1. On the lower right corner of the answer key side of the card, Mega

Cebu Attribute and the subject areas integrated.

2. Show how the answer is integrated contextually across subject

disciplines. Give examples per subject discipline.

3. You may give tips, trivia, definitions, descriptions, formulas, as

needed about the answer.

i. Color – white, bold faced

8. Layout

j. Be consistent in the use of graphics in the cards. If clip art/bubbles are used in

one card type, the same must be used for the other cards. Be sure to cite

sources;

k. Follow strictly the color combination as indicated above;

l. Do not deviate from the specified size and lay-out orientation.

Submission of Cards (soft-copy)

All cards should be emailed to CBE, following these steps:

o Entries should be in MS Powerpoint presentation format ONLY.

o Labeling your entries:

Create a folder with filename using: name of municipality and name of

group. Ex. Lapulapucity_Funtasticfive entry

In each folder, create a sub-folder for each type of card:

Subfolder for know card – Lapulapucity_Funtasticfive_knowcard

Subfolder for do card - Lapulapucity_Funtasticfive_docard

Subfolder for PBL card - Lapulapucity_Funtasticfive_pblcard

Each filename should be labeled according to type of card, example:

FN: Lapulapucity_funtasticfive_Knowcard1

FN: Lapulapucity_funtasticfive_Docard1

FN: Lapulapucity_funtasticfive_PBLcard1

o Submit entries online to [email protected] in zip format, or submit a USB

flashdisk entry to the CBE office located at CNU Campus, Osmena Blvd. The

USBs will be returned to the team after the contest. Please do not submit in CD

format

o Your entry should include the following:

Folder – labeled appropriately with subfolders of each type of card

List of teachers (authors) with 2x2 picture of each participating teacher

indicating name, school, LGU, DepEd Division – doc file.

o Questions related to the preparation of the Cards should be addressed at the

Mega Cebu Teachers Competition FB Group.

1. Printing the Cards. Request from the CBE secretariat for special papers that will be used

for printing your cards. Do not use other forms of paper except the ones provided by the

secretariat. Each team will be provided with 30 papers. Please minimize wastage.

2. Insert the Cards in an expandable envelope: Each partition should be marked Know

Cards, Do Cards, PBL Cards, List of Authors (with 2x2 picture of each participating

teachers indicating name, school, LGU, DepEd Division) – doc file

3. The cover of the expandable envelope should be designed appropriately ( design and

lay-out of the envelope cover should portray the integration of the Mega Cebu attributes

to the learning resource materials developed.

4. Deadline for submission of both hard and soft copies is on: September 18, 12 MN.

Selection Process

All entries will be pre-screened by CBE and MEGA Cebu Experts and a select group of

students and teachers..

Only the top 3 entries will be invited to present their outputs in front of a panel of experts

and a select audience from Mega Cebu’s academic community on September 24, 2015,

1:00p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the CBE –Center for Teacher Excellence, CNU Campus,

Osmena Blvd., Cebu City. Notification will be given to the top entries at least 3 days prior

to the final presentation.

o The top 3 entries should be able to present and answer questions about their

flashcards to a panel of experts for a minimum of 1 hour per group.

o All presentation materials should be in Powerpoint format (template to be

provided by CBE).

o Aside from a soft copy of the cards, hard copies in 8 x 11 cardboard should be

printed and submitted to CBE on the day of the final presentation:

At least 10 Know Cards

At least 3 Do Cards

At least 2 PBL Cards

o Each member of the group should be able to orally present and/or answer the

questions raised by the panel of experts

o Attire: National Uniform (Monday) for public school teachers and prescribed

school uniform for private school teachers

The Panel of Experts and a Group of pre-selected Card users will use rubrics to assess

the flash cards. Audience score will be based on manner of presentation only and will

use a simple ranking system

Final Scores of each team will be based on the following:

o Panel of Experts Scores: 60%

o Audience score: 15%

o User-Assessment score: 25%

Winners will be announced on October 2, 2015.

All Flashcards will undergo a series of validation and assessment before its submission

to the Department of Education.

The submitted flashcards will automatically be under Mega Cebu’s custody with

acknowledgment to the teachers as authors of the LRMs.

Prizes at stake

Top 1 Prize:

o Php 35,000 cash prize for the team;

o Php 10,000 cash prize from Julie’s Bakeshop;

o Medal for each team member;

o Certificate as content developer for each team member;

o Free membership to the Coalition for Better Education for one year;

o Two FREE Training grants from CBE valid through December 2016 for each

team member.

Top 2 Prize:

o Php 30,000 cash prize for the team;
