COMPLAINT
---an employee’s expressed (written or spoken)
feelings of dissatisfaction with some aspects of
his working conditions, relationships or status
which are outside one’s control
GRIEVANCE
---an official statement of a complaint over
something believed to be wrong or unfair
about an organizational policy, procedure or
managerial practices or discomfort, whether it
is valid or not
---any dissatisfaction, complaint, irritation or
misunderstanding of an employee arising from
his job, or his relationship with his employer, any
violation of the CBA (Collective Bargaining
Agreement) or of the Labor Code that he
thinks or feels he is wronged or treated unfairly
CAUSES OF GRIEVANCES:
---Perceived unfair treatment of the employee by the supervisor or ineffective or inadequate supervisor/supervision
--- when supervisors behave dictatorially, refuse to listen to employees’ complaints, unfair or inconsistent in disciplinary actions, give inadequate or unclear instructions, or actions, or when they fail to keep employee informed
---Violation by management of the labor of agreement or violation of the law
---Grievances inspired by the Union leaders

GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE
---the method of determining and finding the
best way to remedy the specific cause or
causes of the complaint or grievance
---Step by step process an employee must
follow to get his or her complaint addressed
satisfactorily
For Unionized Firms: For Non-Unionized Firms:
GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE
The employee who has a grievance or claim shall
submit this to his immediate supervisor.
Submitting the grievance to the employee’s union
representative.
Appealing the grievance to the top management
representative with the top union officials.
Submitting the grievance to arbitration.
Presentation of employee problem/s to the supervisor who is expected to settle
the problem within the specified period.
If not satisfied, the employee can elevate the complaint to the next
higher level.
The problem or case may be taken to arbitration for final decision.
