KANSAS STTC 3

If Claimant received a Federal Earned Income Tax Credit during the tax year, enter that

amount. (This will be found on the prior year’s Federal tax return.)

Enter Taxable Federal Income that was not included in KS AGI: Interest on U.S. Govt. obligations, Contributions to Learning Quest, KPERS Disability

TaxSlayer will automatically include Social Security payments that have been entered as income in the Federal Section. SSI, which is never reported as income, will need to be added. NOTE: Social Security disability payments or those that were originally disability payments may be excluded from household income. But they must be entered here as a negative number. Simply adding this amount to the excluded income section will not remove it from the household income.

TaxSlayer will ALSO automatically include Railroad Tier 1 payments that have been entered as income in the Federal Section. This is a problem. Since Railroad Tier 1 should be included 100%, you must enter the Tier 1 amount as a negative number in this entry and enter the Tier 1 amount as a positive number on form line 7, Other Railroad, Pensions and Veterans benefits. TaxSlayer will automatically include the taxable portions of pensions from the Federal income tax form (1040 line 16b and 1040A line 12b). Do not input these amounts or they will be duplicated. The nontaxable portions, if any must be entered here, including the Tier 1 amount from c-1. This would include ROTH distributions. DO NOT include veteran or railroad DISABILITY payments. Railroad Disability benefits (Tier 2) must be entered as a negative number in K-40H line 7 and entered into Excluded Income.

Enter the amounts received during the tax year in the form of Temporary Assistance to Families; welfare or general assistance payments; worker’s comp payments not included in KS AGI. (See Homestead instructions pg.5 for details.)

Enter All Income received by ADULT individuals, other than Claimant and Spouse who lived in the homestead at any time during the tax year. (Include only the amount earned while living in the home.) Income of a minor child would only be entered if their name is on the house deed. Enter any other income not already entered on lines 4 through 8. This should include tax exempt interest and dividends not included in KAGI.

At this point, you must decide whether to file K-40H or K-40PT. If you are unsure

which refund should be claimed, start with answering the K-40H questions. Do not

complete both K-40H and K-40PT questions. TaxSlayer will default to K-40H,

even if K-40PT is more beneficial.

Answer YES to Include K-40H

Complete information on Other Members of Household

NOTE: Entering income for Other Household

Members does not flow to other input screens. This

income must be entered on Household Income

input screen.
