National Auto Auction Association Ac-quires Kink Or Bend LLC Will Provide A Free Online Service To Help Auctions With Structural Damage Disclosures

FREDERICK, MD—As part of its ongoing expansion and en-hancement of membership servic-es, the National Auto Auction Asso-ciation (NAAA) has acquired Kink Or Bend LLC, an infor-mation tech-nology com-pany to help auction members determine if potentially costly dis-closure of a quarter panel replace-ment is required.

Kink Or Bend LLC specialized in creating online resources for automobile structure types. The firm had compiled all the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) information into a single database, assimilating statistics on 500 ve-hicle frame parts to build a search engine for its website.

NAAA will now offer the data as a free service to assist the associa-tion’s more than 300 member auc-tions in complying with the struc-tural damage disclosure policy. Members can access the site at kinkorbend.com or naaa.com.

Determining whether a struc-tural damage announcement is necessary or not is important be-cause it can result in branding the vehicle’s history report for life. A structural damage announcement

costs sellers an average of $2,500, according to Kink Or Bend’s re-search.

“Because it can have a direct im-pact on ve-hicle values we wanted to provide our members with an efficient tool for mak-ing the deci-sion on struc-tural damage disclosures,” said NAAA President Jack Neshe. “Kink Or Bend offered a search

engine that streamlined the process, making it faster and easier to comply.”

A recent revision of the NAAA Structural Damage Policy regard-ing quarter panels now requires an announcement only if it is deemed structural per the OEM, otherwise a disclosure isn’t need-ed. “And finding out you don’t have to make that announcement can result in significant savings,” Neshe noted.

Frank Hackett, NAAA chief ex-ecutive of-ficer, said the as-socia-tion is in the process of transferring the data and website administration to Auto Auction Services Corpora-tion, known as AutoIMS, of At-

lanta, Ga.“The kinkorbend.com website

will shut down later this year and the data will be managed by Au-toIMS the number one supplier of inventory management sys-tems to commercial accounts and auctions in North America,” he added. “We’re working closely with AutoIMS to make the transition seamless and will make a joint an-nouncement at the NAAA Conven-tion in Boston.”

NAAA’s Structural Damage Policy defines and clarifies termi-nology associated with structural damage and specifies the disclo-sure requirements of the seller for vehicles offered at NAAA affiliated auctions. It is intended to provide adequate disclosure to the buyer for informed purchase decisions and to limit arbitrations for the seller.

“We’d been discussing the idea of creating a service to help our members with meeting the struc-tural damage disclosure require-ments but the cost of assembling a database and building our own search engine from scratch was substantial,” Hackett explained. “So after months of negotiations, we finalized the purchase of Kink Or Bend. It was the right thing to do because we couldn’t have duplicated all their work for the

amount we paid and the wealth of information we could make avail-able to our members almost im-mediately.”

Cox Enterprises Announces Formation Of Cox Automotive Brings Together Its Global Span Of Products And Services To Simplify The Exchange Of Vehicles And Maximize Value For Its Customers

ATLANTA, GA – Demonstrating its industry leadership and goal of transforming the way cars are bought and sold, Cox Enterprises announced today the formation of Cox Automotive. This move brings together more than 20 leading wholesale and retail automotive brands, including Manheim, Auto-Trader.com and Kelley Blue Book. The creation of Cox Automotive further strengthens the company’s investment in the automotive industry and provides end-to-end global solutions for customers throughout the vehicle lifecycle.

Cox Automotive companies have relationships with more than 40,000 dealers, as well as most major automobile manufacturers. Sandy Schwartz, who until now has held the dual roles of presi-dent of Manheim and AutoTrader Group, will serve as president of Cox Automotive.

“Cox is the industry leader in marketing and remarketing vehi-cles, and this move reinforces our company’s confidence in the global automotive industry,” said Cox Enterprises’ President and CEO John Dyer. “Over the past several years, we have invested in differ-ent segments of our auto busi-ness, from dealer services to our top-rated consumer brands. Under Sandy’s leadership, our wholesale and retail automotive brands have thrived and we are committed to

While Cox Automotive will be the banner company for the di-verse portfolio of global automo-tive businesses, each business will retain its individual brand. The newly formed Cox Automo-tive businesses will be organized around five core areas providing both domestic and global pres-ence. The core areas are below and include:

And, as the leading global provider of remarketing services, Manheim registers nearly seven million used vehicles annually, facilitating transactions represent-ing nearly $46 billion in value.

“Over the past few years, I’ve been excited to be a part of an in-dustry that is taking a leading role in driving economic growth, in-novation and greater efficiencies,” said Schwartz. “We formed Cox Automotive because we know that the automotive space is not one where any of us can go it alone. Our goal is to pave the way for our customers by offering them unique perspectives, industry insights and end-to-end solutions that de-liver greater business value.”

Dealer’s Auto Auction Of Mobile Takes To Live Radio Broadcast To Creatively

Promote GSA Sale To Community Mobile, Alabama – David An-

drews, CEO of City Enterprises, LLC took to the airwaves on a local Clear Channel radio 95 KSJ in Mobile, Ala-bama as he joined DAA Mobile General Man-ager Al Prai-tano for some country music and GSA vehicle pre-views the day before one of their largest sales.

“We were look-ing for some-thing fun and dif-ferent to engage the community for our GSA Sale,” said Praitano. “Our local radio station offered up a remote broadcast from the pub-lic GSA sale staging area, and we thought that some country music and fried chicken might be the perfect “Southern draw” for the city to view our public sale inven-tory.

“At first, we thought of it as

a fun promotion, but when we looked at some of their listener numbers and realized that a re-mote broadcast would reach an

average of 9,000 listeners* each time the auction is mentioned, it became a smart AND fun promo!” continued Praitano.

David Andrews requested the Arbitron report for the station when Praitano came up with the promotional idea. “The numbers the station supplied surprised me,” stated Andrews. We realized our remote broadcast with WKSJ-

FM had the potential to reach over 35,000 listeners* during an after-noon live remote broadcast.”

Praitano went on to say, “When try-ing to reach the public from our usual posi-tion as a dealer only auc-tion, it is chal-lenging to find ways to inter-est and involve the public. We had a lot of cars for our month-ly GSA sale, and I’m proud of the creativ-

ity our team showed when putting together this sale.”

DAA Mobile is part of the Dealer’s Auto Auctions Group, with dealer sales every Thursday at 9:00am, and monthly GSA sales open to the public. Learn more at their website, www.dealersauto.com.

Mahle Adds Two WarehousesThe Mahle Aftermarket, Service

Solutions division of Mahle After-market Inc. has opened a satellite warehouse in the Los Angeles area to support customers on the West Coast and a distribution cen-ter in Burlington, Ontario, to expand service to Canadian customers.

The new satellite ware-house in Bell, Calif. enables the company to quickly fulfill orders to West Coast custom-ers, according to Jon Doug-las, general manager, Mahle Aftermarket Inc.

“The California warehouse is a great service upgrade for our customers because we now stock our most popular maintenance machines, service parts and accessories within a one day ground shipping area for nearby customers. In addition,

this new warehouse allows us to fulfill even more orders nationwide after our main warehouse in York is closed for the day.”

The new California facility en-ables Mahle Aftermarket, Service

Solutions to ship orders up until 6 p.m. (EST) to anywhere in the country.

Douglas says the Mahle Af-

termarket Canada distribution center is another positive devel-opment for the company. “Our expansion into Canada enables us to reach more customers with our automotive maintenance equip-

ment and it is equipment that we know can help technicians be more productive in their day-to-day duties.”

Mahle Aftermarket, Ser-vice Solutions was formerly known as the RTI Division of Mahle Aftermarket.

Mahle Aftermarket, Ser-vice Solutions specializes in the development, manu-facturing and distribution of automotive maintenance equipment, including air conditioning service, fluid ex-

change and nitrogen tire inflation systems. For more information, visit www.mahle-aftermarket.com

Mack And Volvo Training Programs Get CASE Accreditation

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Mack Trucks Academy and the Volvo Trucks Academy announced that both have received the Continuing Automotive Service Education (CASE) accreditation from the National Insti-tute for Automotive Service Excellence.

The accredi-tation program reviews a training provider’s pro-grams against the industry stan-dard to ensure best practices are being met.

Both companies were proud to receive the accreditation.

“Receiving CASE accreditation spotlights the high-quality training programs offered through Mack Trucks Academy,” said Stephen Roy, president of Mack Trucks North American Sales and Mar-keting. “Meeting CASE standards

shows Mack’s commitment to developing exceptional training programs to help increase the ser-vice and support for our custom-

ers while continuing to support our dealers.”

Specifically, the Mack Trucks Academy provides training for 14 different dealership job roles, like parts and service and techni-

cian, as well as training for drivers across the US and Canada.

Volvo Trucks Academy also provides dealer-ship sales, parts, service, technician and driver training programs both online or at six of their locations in Canada and the US.

“CASE accreditation drives

continuous improvement of our instructional program and dif-ferentiates us within the heavy-duty truck industry,” said Göran Nyberg, president, Volvo Trucks North American Sales & Market-ing. “Exceptional training is vi-tally important for the success of our dealer network and drives a greater value of ownership for our customers. Accreditation also validates the quality of training we provide to customers who operate

their own ser-vice net-

works.”
