The Essential Help Authoring Tool for Microsoft®
Word
ComponentOne Doc-To-Help 6.0ComponentOne Doc-To-Help 6.0 combines
the best of Doc-To-Help 2000 with the best of
True Help™ 1.0 to create a new Help authoring
tool that’s perfect for the novice or expert
Help author.
New to Help authoring? If you can use
Microsoft Word, you can produce a robust Help
system quickly and easily. ComponentOne
Doc-To-Help 6.0 is also a great tool for
experienced Help authors because it offers
the sophisticated extras you look for.
Whether you need to create HTML Help 1.x,
cross-platform HTML 4.0, WinHelp 4.0, JavaHelp
1.1, or print documentation, ComponentOne
Doc-To-Help makes the process pleasant and
efficient. Plus, it’s Microsoft Help 2.0 ready!
Best of Both Worlds: Easy to Use and PowerfulWe’ve combined the favorite features from
Doc-To-Help 2000 (cross-references, margin
notes, and topic types) with the favorites from
True Help 1.0 (streamlined build process,
scripting, and report generation), while retaining
the Microsoft Word-based, single-source
authoring of the original tools. Then we added
new features and enhancements to ensure it was
as powerful as it was easy to use. Take a look at
what ComponentOne Doc-To-Help 6.0 offers:
 Single-source authoring:: Create HTML Help,
cross-platform HTML Help, WinHelp, JavaHelp,
and print documentation from a single set of
Word documents—there’s no need to purchase
separate editions! Eager to create Microsoft
Help 2.0 when it’s released by Microsoft? No
problem, ComponentOne Doc-To-Help 6.0 is
also Microsoft Help 2.0 ready. Porting your
Help system to a different platform is as simple
as selecting a list item and clicking a button.
 Styles and templates:: ComponentOne
Doc-To-Help 6.0 generates Help systems
from the styles you use to format the source
documents, so document mark-up is greatly
reduced. Plus, you’re not limited to using
specific document templates or style
sets—use your own style conventions or use the
templates we include with ComponentOne
Doc-To-Help 6.0. And you Doc-To-Help 2000
users will love the fact that you can put text in
Heading 1, which now has the same
functionality as any other heading style!
 Database architecture:: ComponentOne
Doc-To-Help 6.0’s unique project architecture
stores the relationships among styles, topics,
index keywords, and table of contents entries
in a per-project database, automatically
generating index entries, hyperlink tags,
jumps and pop-ups, etc. You can also
share information among multiple projects!
Intuitive user interface and Word toolbar::
ComponentOne Doc-To-Help 6.0 has a
redesigned “all in one” interface that puts full
functionality at your fingertips, not hidden in a
maze of dialogs. We’ve also included a Word
toolbar that allows you to incorporate many Help
authoring functions, such as margin notes,
dynamic links, and conditional text in your
source documents.
Project editor:: With the project editor, you can
perform a wide range of Help authoring tasks
(such as in-place editing and topic filtering
and sorting) from within one interface, making
editing source documents and setting the
properties of Help targets very convenient!
Enhanced graphics:: You don’t need to scale an
image in a graphics package before adding it
to your document—simply use the Insert
Picture and Format Picture options within
Microsoft Word! You can also easily create hot
spots with graphics.
Flexible conditional text:: Need to provide links
to related topics in the online Help, but omit
them from your printed manual? These and
related scenarios are no problem because
ComponentOne Doc-To-Help 6.0 gives you all
the benefits of single-source authoring, plus
the ability to designate portions of your source
documents for individual platforms, Help
targets, or attributes (author-defined criteria).
Margin notes:: Adding margin notes is as easy
as clicking the Insert Margin Note button on
the ComponentOne Doc-To-Help 6.0 toolbar
and entering the desired text. You can also
make those margin notes appear in the online
Help as pop-ups by clicking the Link to Margin
Note button when the text is entered.
 Links, jumps, pop-ups, and more::
ComponentOne Doc-To-Help 6.0 makes it a
snap to add topic links and jumps, pop-up
topics, dynamic links (A-links and K-links),
and cross-references!
Glossary terms:: Creating glossaries is easy! An
empty glossary is automatically prepared when
you create a new project. Simply open the
glossary document and enter text as desired.
During compilation, project documents are
searched for text that matches glossary entries
and those matches are converted into
hypertext links.
Enhanced indexing:: As your source documents
are compiled, topic hierarchy information and
any existing XE field data are extracted and
saved to the project database. You can then
easily attach index keywords to topics and
simply push a button to rebuild the project and
update its index.
 Scripting:: If you’re a programmer,
ComponentOne Doc-To-Help 6.0 even allows
you to use Visual Basic scripts to customize the
behavior of individual styles at compile time!
Modular help projects:: Unlike multi-file projects,
in which several Word document files in the
same folder are compiled together into one
Help file, modular Help projects consist of
documents in different folders that are part of
different Help projects, and are compiled into
different Help files that appear as one file to
users. ComponentOne Doc-To-Help 6.0
makes it easy to retain the same high-quality
Windows Help and HTML Help systems as
you would with a single project!
Conversion utility:: Easily convert your existing
Doc-To-Help 2000 projects with the click of a
button! True Help 1.0 files are automatically
read and do not require conversion to open
existing projects.
Useful reports:: You can organize your large
projects with reports that show contents, index,
script, style, and topic information. You can also
have hierarchical views of individual projects,
such as reports showing topics with keywords
and vice versa. All reports are offered in online
and hard copy formats.
