Secured by Design
Supportingthe principlesof designingout crime
Essential to the Secured by Design
Scheme are licensed products which are
successfully tested to meet the relevant
Police Preferred Specifications. The
specifications for doors are PAS 23, which
is a performance standard that certifies
that a doorset is fit for purpose; and PAS
24, which covers enhanced security
performance requirements for door
assemblies. This is an attack test standard
that certifies that a door, frame, lock and
hardware set has with stood a series of
physical tests based on common methods
of burglary using defined sets of tools and
attack time.
Research shows that Secured by Design
can reduce burglary crime by 50%. It
supports one of the Government's key
planning objectives - the creation of
secure, quality places where people wish
to live and work.

Glass Reinforced Polymer (GRP)
was developed in the UK during the
Second World War as a replacement
for the moulded plywood used in
aircraft randomes. Its first main civilian
application was for the building of
boats, mainly Lifeboats, where it is
still used today.
Sidey Composite doors have been
tested by a UKAS approved testing
facility where first a weather test is
performed in which the door is tested
for air-and water tightness and
deflection during windload. During
seven subsequent tests, the handle,
doorleaf and door frame are subjected
to stress in various ways. Products are
subjected to a 50,000 cycle test to
assess the durability of the door leaf,
frame, hinges and locks. Sidey uses a
system called Delta-E to measure
tolerances in colour. Our tolerance as
per BS12608, is a Delta-E of 7 and we
guarantee all our doors are within this.

The insulating properties of thermally efficient SuperSpacer® are such that they can help reduce heatloss through the glass in your doors by up to 94%.
Super Spacer®
• Less heat loss means lower heating bills
• Less energy consumed results in lowercarbon emissions
Sealed units incorporating Super Spacer®
Warm Edge technology have beenproven to reduce noise transmission byup to 2dB, over units with standardaluminium spacer. Super Spacer® ismade from closed polymer foam, aconstruction that not only speeds upmanufacture but also absorbs sound.
Super Spacer® has excellent resistanceto Nitrogen and Argon gas absorption. It has high UV resistance and can copewith a phenomenal range in temperaturefrom -51˚C to +127˚C. It has 100%memory and therefore allows forexpansion and contraction, which isa major cause of stress fractures inconventional sealed units. In acceleratedtesting Super Spacer® has been shownto last over twice as long as other dualseal systems and a staggering five timeslonger than single seal systems.
Super Spacer® has a lower sight lineequivalent to only 9.8mm from the edgeof the glass.
Super Spacer® is 950 times lessconductive than an aluminium spacerwhich reduces overall U-values by up to0.2W/m2K.
Super Spacer® reduces the condensationby up to 70% over normal double glazing.
At the time of going to print Sidey havebeen certified to ISO 14001.

Super Spacer® is the highest performing
spacer system for thermal efficiency. In a
recent government funded project carried
out by the Glass and Glazing Federation
(GGF), a host of simulations and hot-box
testing were undertaken. The tests were
designed to determine the effect of Warm
Edge products on overall U-values of
different types of windows and glazing
configurations. In all cases Super Spacer®
came out on top.
80% of energyloss is through the edgeof the glass - up to 65%warmer temperature atthe edge of the glassusing Super Spacer®

Gearing and Locking System
Door Handles
The one piece door lock consists of the mainlock and two hooks
top and bottom. The centre lock is operated with a handle which,
when lifted engages the locking points and thrusts the deadbolt into
its housing. The whole mechanism is then deadlocked when the
door is locked. The lock is BSEN1670:1997 Part 5.6 Class 4
Certified and as part of the complete door is certified to PAS23,
PAS24 and Secured by Design. The cylinder used with this locking
system is a 6 pin system with 240,000 combinations and
manufactured in accordance with EN 1303.

Note: Under no circumstances use a water displacing spray
as this will leave a sticky residue that can attract dust and wash
out any residual grease injected during the installation. Locks
should be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol.
