About this programme: The New Managers’ Development Programme introduces the basic principles of management and leadership, and combines a skills set with practical learning, in order to prepare the partici-pant for his career path as a manager and leader.

Managerial skills coupled with self–awareness, enhanced people management, leadership and team skills equips the new manager to face various situations with confidence.

EThis programme will develop a participant’s understanding of the changing environment of business; develop self-awareness in terms of one’s own leadership, team and managerial competencies; allow participants to apply basic principles and practices to enhance managerial decision making and communicate effectively in the workplace, as well as equipping participants to plan short and long-term goals, defining work objectives and delegate effectively.

What will you receive upon completion?Upon successful completion of the programme (which requires attendance of all classroom-based study blocks as well as passing of all assignments), you will receive a certificate from Stellenbosch University.

What are the admission requirements?No formal tertiary qualifications are required. Participants should have English language competence at NQF level 4 or equivalent. Candidates do not need to have had exposure to a management position. However, candidatesare encouraged to have access to a personal coach or mentor from their own organisation during and after theprogramme.

Understanding the concept of personal effectiveness to analyse your own efficiency in the work context; identifying obstacles to taking personal responsibility and action within the EQ framework; understanding various team roles; describing the competencies that promote change and result in changed teams; identifying motivational techniques to create a positive working environment; understanding appropriate leadership styles to achieve positive influence; knowing your ownleadership style and identifying areas for further development

Describing accounting and financial management concepts; reading and interpreting basic financial statements of a business; describing the relationship between growth, profit and cash flow

Communication in the Workplace

Understanding communication channels in business and everyday life; the role of technology in communication; the importance of becoming new media literate; managing and disseminating information effectively; using effective communication tools and techniques in a business environ-ment
