highlights from the

September Meeting

Angela welcomed us and mentioned what a good feeling the Jubilee and Olympic Games had given and despite the weather, the summer had been enjoyable.

Thank you letters had been received from members of Bucklers Mead W I for our Fish and Chips Supper and Jazz Evening.

Janet advised that subscriptions for 2013 will be £33.

Six members will attend the Short Mat Bowls tournament with one member providing a raffle prize.

Arrangements were made for the visit to Wyke Farms for Cheese Packing; instructions included the wearing of flat shoes and no jewellery other than a wedding ring.

Members were given the opportunity to attend a Quiz Evening at Walton; Group Meeting at Ashcott; Luncheon Club and Scrabble Evening.

Congratulations went to Corinne Webb, on winning the W I Shield at the recent Flower Show, for a Victoria Sponge.

Trish Cox has arranged the Christmas Meal at The Quarry Inn, Keinton Mandeville on Wednesday December 5, three courses £22 and two courses £19. Money please at the November meeting.

Due to lack of support for the proposed visit to Windsor Castle Angela has arranged for a trip to Cranbourne Chase on October 18 with cost of coach £11; tour of the garden £4.50 and lunch £5.10.

Mary Burt won the competition for a sunflower head and Joan Carbin the Flower of the Month with a wonderful dahlia.

As this was our annual Harvest Supper and Sale, we then indulged ourselves with a delicious supper, including apple pie and cream.

This was followed by an auction of goodies brought by members, Sheila Taylor once again being our very able auctioneer. Her “special pair” this year featuring giant onions grown by her husband, Les.

Potholes and now more Potholes………

The reporting email on the County Council’s website doesn’t seem to work but there’s a very

nice man at the Somerset area office, Acting Assistant Highway Service Manager, John

Nicholson, email: [email protected] who is doing his best to sort out

the broken drain going up the hill from Ham Lane towards the Church. He says the work is

scheduled in and the potholes should be fixed soon. You may like to add your comments to his

inbox! And report any other highway holes/flooding/drainage problems in the Village.

Keep your entries coming in for the next newsletter - by 24th October please—if you’ve got

the words I’ve got the space! ‘The Compiler’
