Mission StatementFor this project of Space and Environment, I read the book, “Invisible Cities” by the author, Italo Calvino. The City of the Dead also known as ‘Aria’ is the city which I selected to base my final project on. The reason for selecting Aria is because of how Calvino critically described the city from start to finish. In addition, this evidence from invisible cities, “dampness destroys people’s bodies” reminds me of franchises which I’m interested in such as, ‘Mortal Kombat’ and ‘Resident Evil’ which gradually have a lot disastrous rotten dead bodies around their environments of environment. By co-operating with Calvino's description with the features of Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil gradually made me to come up with more ideas during the process of producing thumbnails which will develop and add up to produce successful final pieces.

In my mind I imagined this city being very mystical and dark with lost (dead) souls floating around the city just like the wind containing several brutalised and rotten bodies on the ground. Similar to Mortal Kombat I have thought of including shadow priest as guardians which will give a shadowy appeal and also including a portal absorbing everything near it. My final pieces will have low contrast since the colours of the environment of the dead are normally dull which demonstrates decay and rotten. So I will be using very dark colours such as, purple, brown, red, green, blue, black, grey, yellow and orange.
