Computer Connection
1ST GRADEFirst grade has learned how to log in and out of the computer and what that means. We have also learned how to use a mouse to point, click, drag, and scroll, and we have practiced those skills through online games and tutorials. First graders have learned the importance of being safe online and the rules we MUST follow when using the internet. We have also begun to explore the keyboard and where certain keys are located.
KINDERGARTEN
Hello Parents!I cannot believe that we are through the first grading period. Time flies when you’re having fun! I have truly enjoyed meeting all of your children through the computer lab this year. We have been busy learning a lot of things on the computers, and we have even gotten to explore “iPad Fridays!”
The computer lab was equipped with brand new Apple Macintosh computers this summer so the first few weeks of school we were busy setting those up, installing programs, and customizing our docks. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders could consider themselves “computerprogrammers.”
We have finally settled into a routine and the kids seem excited to be learning and exploring new things on the computers. I am excited to be learning new things about your children and look forward to a year filled with fun!
If you ever have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.

Kindergarten has been busy learning the rules of the computer lab and how to take care of computers. We have learned how to use the mouse and practiced skills through online games and tutorials. Kindergarteners have practiced letters and colors on the computer and even used it to paint. We also learned the importance of being safe online and the rules to follow when using the internet.
2ND GRADESecond grade has used the internet for research, using teacher-selected websites, and learned how to be safe online. We watched our first “video of the month”, which had to do with online safety, and we will continue to explore the Netsmartz Kids website for additional activities and videos related to being safe online. We arecurrently working on keyboarding skills and the 5 things to remember for correctkeyboarding posture. Quiz your child to see if they know.

Fourth graders have worked in groups to learn some web basics, and will soon be teaching that to the rest of the class. We are getting ready to begin exploring Microsoft Office programs so we can start some fun projects!

HEADPHONES
PLEASE remember to send headphones in with your child. We use them every day, and it’s a little crazy listening to several computers talking at once. Thank you!

~Rita Pierson
Third graders have all learned to log in with their very own username and password! We have also installed programs and customized our computers. Fifth graders are competing in an online safety challenge withother schools from across the country. This will go through December, and we arehoping to be one of the top 6 schools so we can bring home a trophy! We have just begun to explore how to be safe online and prevent cyber bullying.
