School—5491 4522 Unity College - 5490 5777 We recognise the traditional owners of this land the Gubbi Gubbi peoples. Liturgy and the Call to Ministry ―The Church is most fully and visibly itself when it gathers for the Eucharist. There the Church expresses what it already is by God‘s gift, and what it must more truly become - a community of faith and love, one in Christ, holy by the power of the Spirit, catholic in the integrity of its faith and the universal scope of its outreach, apostolic in its living continuity with the faith and mission of the apostles and the Church throughout the ages‖ (Catholic Bishops Conference of England & Wales, Scotland, Ireland. One Bread, One Body. 1998. #19. http://www.catholicbishops.ie/1998/06/06/one-bread-one-body-2/ ). In the OLR Caloundra Parish, as in other Australian parishes, we see the largest percentage of our parishioners when we gather to give thanks and praise to God at our celebrations of Sunday Mass. In order for Eucharist to be the best possible experience, preparation and celebration need to be priorities. The parish ministry and finance teams, supported by wonderful admin staff, dedicated groups of gifted musicians, talented lay liturgical ministers, faithful community leaders and amazingly generous and faith-filled people, always place a strong focus on our liturgical celebrations. Sacraments of Initiation, Healing and Commitment are all celebrated in our OLR Church‘s sacred, beautiful and welcoming worship space. We have celebrated many seasonal solemnities and feast day liturgies after which people have left Mass with a sense of ―Wow!‖ Are our celebrations of Sunday Eucharist foretastes of the Kingdom of God? Are we all fully, consciously and actively participating? At present, there are core groups of parishioners who are ministers of the word, extraordinary ministers of communion, etc., but the lists are depleting and the same people are doing more and more. It is time to strengthen our focus on the ―basic philosophy that every person is uniquely made and gifted by God‖ (James Mallon, Divine Renovation, 2014, p.166). Aware of our gifts and talents, we are sometimes timid about offering them. Over the coming weeks, Fr Kevin and ministry team members will be inviting and/or calling for more involvement in ministries and welcoming all who desire to offer their gifts. Please place your areas of interest and contact details on the leaflet provided and place it on a collection plate. Formation and training will be provided for specified ministries. Jeanette Smyth
