Shows
A bold selection of unruly shows, essential films and art exhibitions.
Subbacultcha shows We aim to promote unconventional, unruly artists at the beginning of their careers, right about the time when they release their first album, tour Europe for the first time or have their first solo art show. To this end, we take our cues from independent labels from the Netherlands or across the world in search for today’s most interesting music-makers. We also work closely with small alternative venues in Amsterdam, Utrecht and Rotterdam in order to produce shows where the right audience meets the right band.
Side ProgrammeThe formula of our monthly agenda is dynamic as we are open to making new partnerships and discovering new venues. In this sense, we curate a side programme of alternative and experimental events from the agenda of our partners and collaborators. For instance, we promote Muziekge-bouw aan ‘t IJ’s The Rest is Noise programme, forward-thinking pho-tography exhibitions at Foam, special screenings within the exhibition programme of EYE Film Institut, and we collaborate with Goethe-Institut on their music programme.

Subbacultcha editorial
Over the years, the Subbacultcha! magazine has catalysed an important number of local and international writers, photographers and artists that share our passion and vision.
publications
We have a consistent output of music and art publications each year. So far our yearly rhythm has consisted of, but has not been limited to: ten issues of the Subbacultcha! magazine produced concurrently with at least two art publications, special editions of the magazine and other print projects.
Editorial visionWhile Subbacultcha’s scope is international, our perspec-tive is molded by the local context - Amsterdam’s eclectic music and art scene of which Subbacultcha has been a part of for ten years now.
We have portrayed contemporary musicians and artists, relaying their personal histories and idiosyncrasies in interviews, photoshoots, photo essays, personal essays, and free-form articles published in our print magazine or on our website. We have curated and designed art publi-cations in collaboration with some of our favourite local creators, our projects ranging from exhibition booklets to poster books to unconventional wrapping paper.
During this time, our network of contributors and col-laborators has expanded, and we now have in-house tools to create original editorial content, inspiring pho-tography and beautiful print publications. Although our headquarters and editorial team are based in Amsterdam, our network reaches far beyond the Netherlands making unlikely encounters possible between touring musicians and international photographers.
