HORNS OF PLENTY 1995 PERFORMERS

JOSEPH CHILLE, our Master of Ceremonies, is the Program/Operations Manager of WJYE-FM and WECK-AM, a position he has held for the past 17 years . We welcome and thank him for participating in our program tonight.

THE AMHERST SAXOPHONE QUARTET tours extensively and has performed at Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center and Lincoln Center. The group's music has been broadcast on National Public Radio, American Public Radio, and Voice of America. In 1992 they were awarded 1st place by the Chamber Music Society of America. The ASQ records exclusively for MCA Classics and is in residence at the State University at Buffalo.

PIERCE ARROW is "a Barbershop Quartet with the classic sound. " The group is named after the luxury automobile that was produced in Buffalo, and they emulate that classy theme. A member of the East Aurora Chapter of SPEBSQUSA, the quartet has almost 100 combined years of barbershop singing experience. Pierce Arrow has performed at. regional concerts in northern Pennsylvania, Ohio, southern Ontario and New York State. They have participated in several competitions and have won numerous awards.

THE BAR-ROOM BUZZARDS have been dispensing their style of traditional jazz for over 29 years and have become a fixture in the Buffalo area. They have played concerts, private parties and night clubs including performances with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Mark Russell TV Show, the Lancaster Opera House and various festivals throughout the country. Their Tuesday, Thursday and Friday dinner cruises on the Niagara Clipper during the summer months are always a favorite with the general public.

THE ROYAL SERENADERS sing a repertoire of music ranging from spirituals, gospel, anthems, and pop music from Broadway shows and musicals - all from memory. Celebrating its 48th year, they perform music for 4 - part male harmony which is arranged by Roy A. Mathis, the group's director. The chorus began in 1946 when Mathis and brothers James, Cecil and Ted formed a quartet, and these original members are still singing with the group. The Royal Serenaders have traveled and performed in national competitions frequently placing first or second. This group has advanced and sustained the African-American culture through music.
