Conclusion

As a conclusion the experiment of shear box test was conduct successfully. While

conducting this experiment, there was some error occur that have disturb the reading of the

apparatus. Firstly, the error was the apparatus error. The apparatus was not really in good

condition to conduct the experiment but the data still can be determined. Next, the error is

parallax error. When reading the gauge reading, the eyes should read perpendicularly to the

scale of the apparatus. n this experiment the characteristic of shear strength of soil using

direct shear box apparatus is higher for cohesionless soil. The data from the experiment don!t

reach the constant value. The hori"ontal displacement reading decrease after reached two

times of constant readings. This occur may due to the error that came from the apparatus. A

close examination of the failure mechanism in the direct shear box shows that #in#ing was

the dominant mode of deformation, which was different from that in the ring shear.
