Peanut Butter & Jelly Sunday Sunday, July 30

Thank you Concordia for the generous donation of 317 boxes of cereal you donated to Main Street Mission (MSM) in China Grove.

What a blessing to those who gave and those who received the cereal!

Let's continue our support of Main Street Mission on Sunday morning July 30th with a special Sunday designated to the collection of peanut butter and jelly. As you shop for groceries in the next few weeks, please remember to pick up an extra jar of either or both the peanut butter and jelly and bring them on Sunday morning, July 30th to the Family Life Center.

Special thanks to all the members of Concordia who volunteer with "the least of these" at Main Street Mission.

Amazing Grace Circle will meet on July 11 to go out to eat at the China Grove Family House. If you want to carpool, please be at the church at 5:45pm. Otherwise, we will meet there at 6:00pm. If you are not a member of the circle, but would like to attend, please feel free to come and have fellowship and good food.

Congregational Meeting:

Please plan to attend the congregational meeting today at 9:45 am in the FLC to discuss and vote on the proposal to provide additional funds for a full time choir director and organist/pianist. The Worship and Music Committee has rec-ommend and the Church Council has approved the hiring Eddie Karriker as our choir director at a annual salary of $24,300 and hiring Ricky Sharp as our organist/pianist at an annual salary of $18,000. Congregational approval is needed to increase the current 2017 budget by $8,400 to fund these positions for the months of August through Decem-ber. Going forward, these salaries will be included in future proposed budgets. Your attendance at this congregational meeting is very important.

COLUMBARIUM BRICKS ARE INSTALLED

If you purchased a brick “ in memory of/in honor of ” someone special, the bricks have arrived and installation is now complete. Please take a few minutes to walk through the columbarium and see the final work and the personalized bricks that make this area intimate and special. Thanks to Omar and the many valuable helpers who have assisted in this meaningful project! We will gather as a congregation to dedicate this holy space later this fall.

Receiving Holy Communion Those who are baptized and believe that Jesus Christ, crucified and risen, is truly present in, with, and under the forms of bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation, are welcome at the Lord’s Table. Please let the pastor or communion server know you wish to receive this gift of life by holding your open hands toward the cup. We encourage you to bring forward young children for a blessing. The sign for a blessing is folded hands. As you come forward, receive the bread, move to one of the cupbearers and dip the bread into the wine, then partake. Then return to your pew for prayer.

Summary of the NALC Carolinas Convocation of the NALC The congregations of the NALC Carolinas Mission District (CMD) gathered for the annual convocation on May 19 and 20 in Newton, NC. St. James Lutheran Church was the host congregation. Here are a few highlights of the convocation:

Marjorie Beaver and Pastor Ken served as Concordia’s delegates. The Convocation opened and closed with worship. The Rite of Ordination was held Friday night for Salisbury resident Rev. Samar Ghandour. He serves the NALC as a mission coordinator for Liberia, Africa. Rev. Dr. Nathan Yoder was re-elected as Dean. Elections were also held for positions on the Executive Council. NALC Bishop Rev. John Bradosky addressed the convocation. The NALC and the CMD approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Dept. of Lutheran Studies at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. This agreement creates a partnership between the NALC with the seminary for the theological education and training of future pastors. Scholarship funds were approved for seminarians in the CMD. The following committee reports were shared: Mission, Finance, Convocation Planning, Discipleship, Pastoral Care/Transition, Youth, Communications and Internship Site Assistance. Presentations were made on behalf of the NALC Disaster Relief, Lutheran World Relief, and Water Missions International. Workshops were offered to learn more on the ministries listed above, in addition to the NALC Candidacy Committee, Gifts Discovery in the Congregation, Ministry to Seniors, Church Administration, and Church & Society. The CMD has been divided into several sub-districts to address the growing number of congregations. Each sub-district is geographically grouped and has been assigned an assistant dean. Concordia has been assigned to the Yadkin Sub-District with Rev. David Nuotilla (Union Lutheran Church- Salisbury NC) as the assistant dean. The NALC Annual Convocation will be held in Nashville, Tennessee this August.
