In a lot of ways it is a month of recovery on the heels of our Fall Festival, yet it is also a time when we gear up for Advent and prepare for Thanksgiving and Christmas services. One of the more important aspects of November is that it is the month when we as a community evaluate our finances and set our budget for the upcoming year. In that regard, it seems appropriate for me to use this time and space for an honest conversation. I would like to encourage you to open your Bible with me to study the words Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians chapters 8-9. By way of background you should know that the Corinthian church lived in a very prosperous region of Greece. Paul, in this section of Scripture exhorted them to learn from the example of the Macedonian churches, churches in a region of extreme poverty and financial uncertainty. In these 2 short chapters many principles of healthy Christian giving make themselves apparent. Will you examine them, and compare them to your personal philosophy of Christian giving? 2 Corinthians 8:1-2 Giving flows from the inside out, not the outside in. 8:3-4 God’s grace enables us to give beyond our abilities. 8:5 We are to give ourselves first to God and then to each other. 8:6-7 God wants His people to excel in giving 8:8 The sincerity of our love is shown in giving. 8:9 Jesus is the model and power for all giving. 8:10-12 God wants us to complete what we promise. 8:13-15 God calls for equality in giving 8:16-24 We are to keep everything completely transparent regarding giving. 9:1-5 We should seek to be positive role models in our giving. 9:6-11 Remember, you reap what you sow! 9:12-15 Giving can be a real source of joy! I believe that God has called us together into a community of faith and that by the power of the Holy Spirit He has provided for all of our needs. By examining our personal thoughts and philosophies about Christian giving we can see to it that our mission is well funded and in mission continue to grow so that many who do not yet know Him will come to call Jesus, “Savior and Lord.” My prayers are with you as you consider how to bring praise and glory to Him through your ministry of Christian giving.

November 2015

An Honest Conversation For the last few years November has brought about an interesting dynamic at Concordia.

Sunday School is at 10 am. Our children gather together to sing before class. They are practicing their Christmas songs for our December 20 Children's Christmas Pageant. Our pageant will be held during the 10:30 am joint worship service. Please mark your calendar's with the date of the pageant and the practice days. We will have practice each Saturday in December: Dec. 5, 12, and the dress rehearsal will be on Dec. 19. The Board of Christian Education would like all of our children to come to Sunday School each Sunday and to participate in our special Christmas Pageant.

sponsor decking our halls for the Christmas sea-son on Sunday afternoon, November 29 immedi-ately following the 10:30 a.m. blended service.

The Board of Fellowship will decorate the sanctu-ary, Board of Christian Education students will

decorate the fellowship hall tree and Melissa and Monica will decorate the NEED tree in the

We will need some volunteers willing to climb the ladder into the attic to get the trees and deco-rations down prior to or immediately following the service. Each tree box is marked as to its lo-

cation in the building.

Please mark your calendar with this date and let’s make our facility even more beautiful for the

Christmas season.

PRAYER PAL LADIES

OF CONCORDIA

2015

Would you like to be a Secret Prayer Pal during the Advent Season?

If yes, this is how it works. There will be Secret Prayer Pal forms on the table in the entry on Sunday, November 1 as well as a sign up sheet if you plan to participate. Please take a prayer request form and fill out the information regarding your prayers. Once you have the form ready, please put it in the Prayer

Pal basket on the same table in the entry.

The primary focus for this event is to pray for your pals requested prayers during the Advent Season. You may also give your pal cards of encouragement during this time if you wish to do so. The place for the cards will be on the table in the fellowship hall underneath the bulletin board. There will be a basket on this table

marked Prayer Pal. So, if you are participating in this event, you must check the basket often.

There will be a “reveal party”, usually the first week in January to find out your secret pal. The date and loca-tion will be announced in the near future. If any of you would like to host this, please let me know. If you

would like to give your pal a gift at this time, please limit the cost to $5.00.

There is a sign-up sheet on the table as well that we need you to sign if you want to participate and the deadline for this is Sunday, Nov. 22.

Now comes the hard part ladies…..I must have your form returned to the basket or handed to me (Katy) by

Sunday, Nov. 22. We will draw for our secret pal on Sunday, November 29 since it will be a blended ser-vice. Once the drawing begins I cannot take any more prayer request forms. It isn’t fair to all if we don’t have

everyone’s form prior to the drawing!

If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Katy Roy-Rosar at 817 545-6224 or [email protected].

Concordia Adult Christmas

Social Saturday, December 12, 2015

Fellowship Hall 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Tis’ The Season, Merry Christmas & Ho, Ho, Ho! Let’s celebrate the Christmas season with a little food and fun! We will meet in the fellowship hall to do this. Please bring a side dish consisting of salad, vegetable or dessert. Look for a sign up sheet

on the table in the entry in mid-November so we won’t have everyone bringing the same thing. Chef Bob and Katy will provide the protein.

If you would like to participate in the gift exchange, please bring a wrapped Christmas ornament ($10 value). We will kick back and do this when we finish dinner. Most of you know the drill but we will count the gifts, draw a number and start the fun. Don’t get too attached because your ornament

could be and probably will be stolen from you at least once!

Don’t forget to sign the list. Hope to see you all for a fun time.

For questions or concerns, please contact Katy Roy-Rosar at 817 545-6224 or [email protected].
