Racetrack paving can be a cruel mistress, and there were several challenges associated with this project. There was a tight ride spec that had to be met on this project. Areas that presented with deviations greater than 0.3 in. in 25 ft on the wearing course were to be corrected. The maximum allowable profile index (0.1 in. blanking band) for a 0.1-mile section was to be less than 15 in. per mile for the leveling course and 12 in. per mile for the wearing course. Both of these ride numbers were met, with no corrections on the wearing surface required. The inner loops and cut-throughs needed to blend in perfectly with the main track for a smooth transition. One of the most dicult areas to pave was located in Turn 10, which features a 180° hairpin turn. A cutback crew was responsible for trimming every longitudinal joint on the leveling and wearing courses. By doing so, a tight joint could be obtained for a prolonged product. Approximately 25,747 tons of asphalt was placed on the racing surface and connected run-outs. The track consisted of three lifts: a fine SP 12.5 mm was used for the base; a 9 mm with PG 82-22 liquid was put down for the leveling course; and finally, a 9 mm with PG 82-22 liquid was set for the wearing course. The run-outs consisted of two lifts of 9 mm with PG 76-22 liquid. Every single load of liquid asphalt was tested rigorously at the asphalt plant before production began to ensure that all of the asphalt installed met specification. The course, which features the same data-capture technology in use on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, also has over 1,500 FIA certified TecPro energy absorbing blocks and Geobrugg catch fences installed in areas where extra protection is required. This fencing was originally designed to manage rockslides and avalanches. R&B COST ENTIRE FACILITY: $220 million NUMBER OF LIFTS: Three; two on the run-outs TONNAGE RACING SURFACE: 25,747 tons

MIAMI!DADE COUNTY HAS MORE THAN ITS FAIR SHARE OF BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPES AND STRUCTURES, NOT TO MENTION DENS OF VICE AND VENUES FOR RECREATION AND SPORT. IT NOW HAS ANOTHER ONE.

Another recreation venue, that is. The Concours Club is a private automotive country club that when the facility is fully complete will boast more than 2 miles of racetrack courses (consisting of seven unique racing patterns), a pool and jacuzzi, spa, wine and cigar storage, restaurant and bar, as well as full concierge services.

This state-of-the-art automotive country club is being built between the runways of Miami Opa-Locka Airport in the heart of urban Miami. While the surrounding infrastructure is ongoing, the track paving portion began on Jan. 25, 2019, and was completed on March 13, 2019, within the projected timeline for this phase of the overall project.

Racetrack paving can be a cruel mistress, and there were several challenges associated with this project. There was a tight ride spec that had to be met on this project. Areas that presented with deviations greater than 0.3 in. in 25 ft on the wearing course were to be corrected. The maximum allowable profi le index (0.1 in. blanking band) for a 0.1-mile section was to be less than 15 in. per mile for the leveling course and 12 in. per mile for the wearing course. Both of these ride numbers were met, with no corrections on the wearing surface required.

The inner loops and cut-throughs needed to blend in perfectly with the main track for a smooth transition. One of the most di! cult areas

to pave was located in Turn 10, which features a 180° hairpin turn.A cutback crew was responsible for trimming every longitudinal

joint on the leveling and wearing courses. By doing so, a tight joint could be obtained for a prolonged product.

Approximately 25,747 tons of asphalt was placed on the racing surface and connected run-outs. The track consisted of three lifts: a fi ne SP 12.5 mm was used for the base; a 9 mm with PG 82-22 liquid was put down for the leveling course; and fi nally, a 9 mm with PG 82-22 liquid was set for the wearing course.
