Conference Description The 2016 annual ONS Hawaii (Oahu) Chapter conference focuses on the increasing use of targeted therapies in the care of adult and pediatric oncology patients. National and local experts will speak about the classifications of these new agents, the evolving use for difficult to treat cancers, the management of side effects, and the non‐physiological impact on the patient. Is Targeted Therapy truly “the magic bullet”, and how do nurses care for cancer patients receiving these novel agents?
Program Objectives After attending this conference, the participants will be able to: List the major classifications of targeted therapy.
Discuss the clinical uses of targeted therapy in oncology care.
Discuss the major side effects of various targeted therapy agents.
Describe the psychosocial, emotional, and financial impact of these new therapies on the patient.
Program Handouts Printed materials for the conference will not be distributed at the conference. Registered attendees will be able to download and print the material prior to the conference. Information on how to access the handout materials will be emailed to all registered attendees approximately 3‐5 days prior to the conference. Wi‐Fi will not be available in the hotel conference room.
Continuing Education Nurses: A maximum of 6 contact hours will be awarded upon full attendance of this program and completion of the evaluation form.
The Clinical Education Team of the Queen’s Medical Center is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Western Multi‐State Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Pharmacists: Hawai‘i Pacific Health is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This activity is assigned Universal Activity Number (UAN) 0587‐0000‐16‐007‐L04‐P and is accredited for 6.0 hours for attendance at the entire CE session.
Hawai‘i Pacific Health is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
