The rooftop is an idle part of a building structure but some owners are mone- tizing their rooftops through solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, resulting in electricity bill saving that leads to cashflow improvement for companies, enhancing their competitiveness compared to their peers.

In addition to bill saving, companies enjoy tax incentive for installing solar PV system. In Budget 2020, the government announced the extension of Green Investment Tax Allowance (GITA) and Green Income Tax Exemption (GITE) until 2023, and tax exemp-tion was also announced for solar leasing activities.

Meanwhile, the government has also introduced peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading pro-gramme, allowing consumers to sell the excess of electricity generated from their roof-tops to others.

In a nutshell, exciting times ahead.

The MPIA Solar Roadshow 2020 is a congregation of the authorities and industry play-ers to impart comprehensive information about solar PV system investment. Details on incentives, licensing procedure, insurance coverage, Net Energy Metering (NEM), P2P energy trading, etc. will be elaborated during the event.

Having the support from industry as well as the authorities – Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) and Energy Commission (ST) – MPIA Solar Roadshow has become a one-stop platform to channel accurate information on schemes, incentives, risk, return of investment, as well as the technical and financial aspects related to solar PV system deployment.

This is the most focused effort of its kind to date with the government, solar industry and industrial consumers all coming together for the common benefit and good for the environment and Malaysia.
