dAVe BidiniKeynote Address
Winner of the 2006 F.G. Bressani Award, dave Bidini is the author of nine books, all of them critically acclaimed and widely read, including On a Cold Road, Tropic of Hockey, Around the World in 57 1/2 Gigs, and Home and Away. he has made two Gemini Award-winning sports films and has several films in development, including Baseballissimo and a children’s animated series based on a short story. dave has written for a number of news-papers and magazines, including the New York Times, the Village Voice and the Globe and Mail. For twenty-five years, he was a founding member of the rheostatics, Canada’s most beloved independent band.
Brent BAinsession: fActor information session
Brent has played an active role in Canadian music through his experience as an Artist Manager, Agent, Promoter, Publicist and Consultant with companies including the Music Managers Forum of Canada (MMF), six shooter records, live tour Artists, Jane harbury Publicity, Planet 3 Communications and Working title Artists. With this diverse understanding of musicality, performance, artist development, promotion and professional business practice, Brent offers a well-rounded and thorough understanding of the industry to his current position as Manager of the submissions department at FACtor.
BroCk GAllAntpAnel: Getting on stage and staying there
Brock Gallant is the entertainment Manager at plan b Moncton, a small venue that hosts over 500 artists a year. With live shows seven nights a week, Brock is busy keep-ing the club filled with quality entertainment night after night. Brock is also an accomplished musician who has toured extensively as the drummer for new Brunswick country band, the divorcees.
dArren GAlloPpAnel: Getting on stage and staying there
darren Gallop co-founded Company house records in 2005 after 10 years in the music industry. From record releases and artist management, darren’s frustration with disorganization sparked the birth of Marcato digital solu-tions building Artist and Festival management platforms currently used by Jones & Co., CMJ, Cologne on Pop and Iceland Airwaves.
MeGhAn sCottpAnel: Getting on stage and staying there
Meghan scott owns tuck and roll Productions, an artist
management company now based in halifax, ns. she has
helped develop the careers of several emerging artists
like Chris Kirby and slowcoaster, and has also recently
started working with Bonnie ste-Croix and stone Mary.
Meghan has experience in many different facets of the
entertainment industry including event management
and promotion, having worked as a core organizer for the
harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in Fredericton, the com-
munications manager for the 2008 eCMA event, and the
Marketing director at the Fredericton Playhouse. Meghan
also offers grant writing services to artists and non-profit
organizations on the east Coast.
roBBie AGGAspAnel: Making it Home in one piece
robbie began his touring career with a Celtic band by the
name of Pogey who extensively toured the eastern half of
Canada and the new england states. robbie later spent
time on the road with hey rosetta!, with dates across
Canada through the Us. For the last year and a half he
has been tour Manager for the eCMA award-winning
group, the stanfields. With the stanfields, robbie has
crossed Canada and the new england states, touring
with the bands such as Wide Mouth Mason, Flogging
Molly, and the trews. robbie was recently nominated for
Sound Technician of the Year by Music nova scotia.
rose CousinspAnel: career development planning
Born and raised on PeI, 2011 east Coast Music songwriter
of the year, rose Cousins, now lives in halifax, ns. Known
for her pure voice, heart-hitting songs, collaborative
inclination, and infectiously irreverent sense of humour,
Cousins regularly tours north America, the UK and
Ireland. she has recently finished an album recorded with
her friends in Boston entitled We Have Made A Spark, set
for release on February 28, 2012.
sheri JonespAnel: career development planning
sheri Jones has been in the music business for over
twenty years managing the careers of such artists as
Joel Plaskett, Gordie sampson, david Myles, Mary Jane
lamond, Kim stockwood, damhnait doyle and, most
recently, industry newcomers Molly thomason and Mo
Kenney. she is a founding director and past chair or
eCMA, and has served on the boards of FACtor, CArAs,
radio starmaker, and Music nova scotia. she has also
served on the hrC Management Advisory Committee and
wrote the original curriculum for the Artist Management
course at the nova scotia Community College.
dAVid Cyrus MACdonAldpAnel: Making it Home in one piece
david Cyrus Macdonald, B. Mus. ed., has played over
1,000 shows from China to literally the north Pole as
drummer for eCMA award-winning group Paper lions.
he also works as a fundraiser with Music PeI, where he
sits on the Board of directors. he has recently expanded
these services by creating Confederation entertainment
Inc.; a company that connects artists and non-profits
with existing financial and career opportunities.
kiMBerly sinClAirpAnel: career development planning
spinCount founder, Kimberly sinclair, has amassed an
impressive track record helping Canadian artists get
their music heard on radio. drawing on her background
working in new york’s fast-paced fashion industry,
along with her singular ability to bring people together,
Kimberly founded spinCount to promote Canadian
musicians and bands through the most talked about and
influential musical medium, radio. Kimberly was awarded
the 2011 eCMA for Industry Professional of the Year and
spinCount was awarded the 2011 eCMA for Independent
Company of the Year.
kyle CunJAkpAnel: Making it Home in one piece
Kyle is a seasoned musician who plays with david
Myles, the olympic symphonium, snailhouse and many
others artists. he is a photographer by trade and also
runs halifax-based record label, Forward Music. Kyle is
also assistant organizer of Shivering Songs, an annual
folk festival in Fredericton, nB.
lloyd doylepAnel: career development planning
lloyd doyle is the owner of sandbar Music Group Inc., an
Artist Management and development company in opera-
tion since March 2001. he is a former long-serving board
member of Music PeI, was a founding board member of
the PeI Jazz & Blues festival, and was an author of the
original Music PeI funding process. lloyd was involved
with the Music PeI artist showcases at the eCMAs begin-
ning in 2005 in sydney, ns through their most successful
showcase ever in Fredericton, nB in 2008. he also was
involved with helping to create the Music PeI showcase
held every september since 2008. he has previously
worked in radio, concert promotion and music retail.
Current clients include Catherine Maclellan, Meaghan
Blanchard, John Connolly, Katie McGarry, and Melissa
Payne from ontario.
steVe BArBerpAnel: Getting on stage and staying there
steve Barber is co-owner and operator of hunter’s Ale house and Globe World Flavours in downtown Char-lottetown. Known to most as “Barber” he takes pride in promoting Island artists as well as hosting shows 6 nights a week at either venue. hunter’s has picked up two Venue of the year Awards from Music PeI and an eCMA nomination in the same category.
tiM hArdysession: socAn information session
tim hardy has worked with soCAn in a variety of posi-tions within their licensing & Membership depart-ments in both its head office in toronto and its Atlantic Canadian office based in halifax, ns since 1995. tim’s current role with soCAn (Member & Industry relations executive – Atlantic region) has him based in dartmouth, but on the road throughout Atlantic Canada. the Member relations role allows tim to work with songwriters, composers and music publishers, as well as industry associations and key influencers within the region, spreading the word about soCAn and its role within the Canadian music industry. the Industry relations role al-lows tim to work directly with many industry associations in Atlantic Canada (Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses, Chambers of Commerce, hospitality Associa-tions, restaurant Associations, etc.) whose membership is affected by soCAn licensing. tim also does numerous presentations and workshops throughout the region discussing soCAn, copyright, performing rights and the soCAn Foundation.
wAyne o’ConnorpAnel: Making it Home in one piece
From booking acts, to artist development, to his Mac-Gyver-esque abilities with touring tricks and production equipment, Wayne has a wealth of practical knowledge and experience which he shares with irrepressible enthu-siasm and passion. Wayne has been active in the music industry for over thirty years and has undertaken a broad range of projects and roles in live performance and tour-ing from early days mixing sound and handling lighting in local venues, to booking and managing/tour managing acts of all genres, to acting as the CArAs rep on Canada’s east coast, through to his maturation into a world-class production and tour manager for international acts. Wayne has helped grow and guide many artists in the area of live Performance. he has also managed trade shows for industry conferences and has acted as the east Coast Music Association’s technical director since 2007.
