Quality Assurance through verification of short-circuit withstand capability as a strategic tool

Prof.Dr Rene P.P. SmeetsKema

The mechanical withstand under short-circuitconditions is a major requirement in anytransformer design.

The relevance of short-circuit verification through testing will be explained. In many cases design review can be an alternative.

Quality in Design: comparative study of the ability to withstand short circuits

Eng. Charbel AounMatelec

The ability of transformers to withstand thedynamic effects of short circuits is bestdemonstrated by a short-circuit test, which is however costly and time consuming. According to IEC 60076-5 a comparative design review that identifies the forces and strengths that should be taken into account for design may be used as an alternative.

Premium transformer oil processing and its impact on transformer lifetime

Mr.Nils HerleniusErgon

This presentation explains on how PremiumNaphthenic Transformer Oil is being produced with focus on Consistent Quality and Maximum Life Time.

Also Hydro treating (cleaning) as a tool tomaximize the oil characteristics will be discussed.

Impact of the quality of insulation onTransformer’s performance

Dr Daniel J. TschudiWeidmann

The solid electrical insulation of oil-filled power transformers serves as insulation and contributes to the mechanical strength.

This presentation shows how Weidmann’s insula-tion products make its customer’s transformers better to the benefit of their owners and users.

Developments in Manufacturing of GOElectrical Steel

Mr Michael HastenrathThyssen Krupp

Despite of a long history of continuously improved magnetic properties, the further development of grain oriented electrical steel is a challenging target.

The challenge is to achieve lower losses for more energy-efficient transformers and less transformer noise.

Quality in Action : Matelec’s HV laboratory

Mr Georges Bouti & Mr Raymond ObeidMatelec

When Quality is concerned the litmus test forevery Power transformer is the passage in the High Voltage laboratory.

A presentation of Matelec’s new test platform may therefore not be absent.

During this lecture an introduction and demon-stration will be given of some of the state-of-the-art concepts of the platform.
