Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Facilities Manager

Location: The Blacksmith, Lower Store Yard, Hyde Park

Grade and Salary: Grade III £32,110 - £38,803The Royal Parks is responsible for managing and preserving over 5,000 acres of historic parkland across London, including valuable conservation areas and important habitats for wildlife. We are also responsible for a number of other spaces in London including Brompton Cemetery, Victoria Tower Gardens and Grosvenor Square Garden. Some of London’s most iconic memorials such as The Albert Memorial can be found in our care.

Relationships:

Responsible to The Works Project Manager (WPM) and working in a small dedicated team you would have line management responsibility for one member of staff.

Important Functional Relationships:

Liaison with all levels of Royal Parks' staff up to and including Board level. Close working with park managers, estates team, procurement and finance.

Important External Relationships:

There can be requirements to communicate and interact with Park Users, Local Authorities, other Government Departments and Agencies, Statutory Undertakers, consultants, contractors and members of the public

Main Purpose of the Job:

To assist the Works Project Manager in the delivery of effective works management within The Royal Parks. In particular, take the lead on hard services facilities management, TRP outsource the delivery of hard services to a facilities management contractor.

The work undertaken by the Works Department of The Royal Parks is diverse and involves office and residential buildings, public toilets, catering outlets, sports pavilions, playgrounds, fountains, statues, lakes, rivers, roads, bridges, footpaths, utilities, fences, railings, boundary walls, gates, street lighting all set within a historic park setting. Many of the assets in our care are either Grade 1 or Grade 2 Listed. With millions of Londoners and tourists visiting the eight Royal Parks each year there is inevitably pressure on the historic fabric. The ever-increasing need to reconcile competing and often conflicting demands within tight budgetary controls requires skill and imaginative solutions to ensure affordability and best value.

As part of a small team you would be expected to be self motivated and willing to get out and visit each of our eight parks on a regular basis and become familiar with our assets.

Main duties/responsibilities:

Provide support to the Works Project Manager on the control and management of the facilities management contract. Ensure adherence to all health and safety legislation and requirements in all works interventions. Provide management and co-ordination of the facilities management functions and maximise the performance of consultants and contractors in the performance of their duties. Ensure that maintenance activities are prepared and agreed and are delivered on time, on cost and to an agreed standard. Provide technical advice in respect of maintenance specifically mechanical, electrical and building and civil, construction works including specialist historic techniques where applicable. Advise on technical, financial, operational and programme matters as necessary with regards to maintenance. Support the WPM in maintaining and enhancing the historic built environment in accordance with Corporate Plan objectives, policies, statutory requirements and budgetary controls. Take responsibility for the maintenance of the Royal Parks Facilities Management Registers. Responsible for the management and control of the Facilities Management Budget.
