Safer LondonWe are Safer London, the leading London charity working to prevent and address gang violence, vulnerability and exploitation among young people. We were born in 2005, set up with a grant from the Metropolitan Police Authority to support young people at risk of crime.

HRH The Prince of Wales is Patron of Safer London, and the Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick serves as President.

To date, we have helped 48,000 young people escape violence, exploitation and crime and turn their lives around.

We believe every young person should be able to live free from exposure to gangs, exploitation and crime and we put this into action by reaching out to London’s most vulnerable and exploited young people to prevent them from slipping through the net. Through our programmes, we:

• can assign a young person a skilled independent advocate who will help them navigate through services and get access to the legal and professional help they are entitled to;

• deliver 1:1 and group sessions with young people on safety, consent and self-worth, and equip them with the tools to make a safe transition into adulthood avoiding harm;

• work with schools to improve safeguarding and prevent violence in both the school and wider community;

• support young people who want to leave or escape from gangs;• empower parents and carers to nurture young people in these ever-changing

technological times and strengthen family connections;• provide trained mentors who open and expand young people’s horizons and ambitions;• help social housing tenants escaping domestic violence relocate and maintain their

tenancy;• train professionals (including the police), keeping them abreast of new and emerging

threats.

Role Description LGE is a bespoke pan London service funded by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime(MOPAC), for gang affected young people, both those who are involved in and/or those impacted by gang activity and youth violence. LGE has a focus on those aged 16-25 and our aim is to achieve positive and sustained change for young people through advocacy, specialist support and practical tools.

Act as the first point of contact to the service, ensuring effective engagement with referrers and young people to appropriately identify and assess their needs. Undertake assessment and allocation of referrals to the LGE Service and ensure young people accessing the service are referred into the appropriate strands of support. Pro-actively promote the service, deal with enquiries about the service and provide updates on activity, responding in a timely manner to all queries from professionals.

Responsibilities Specific Duties will include:

1. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with multiple delivery partners and key stakeholders across London. Co-ordinate and work closely with relevant partners Pan London to increase appropriate referrals to the service and ensure it is meeting its targets.

2. Deliver workshops and presentations to promote the service and improve referral pathways.

3. Deliver effective face to face contacts with young people and referrers, including the following:

4. Undertake initial needs assessments with young people

5. Assess the young person’s motivation to engage in the service

6. Liaise with the young person and other professionals to propose/ recommend the strands of intervention

7. Deliver relevant and effective interventions based on assessed need

8. Maintain accurate records and conduct direct work with clients in accordance with Safer London’s policies and procedures and with all funders’ requirements.

9. Make appropriate onward referrals, signposting clients to other support services and positive activities, where the service can’t meet the client’s needs. Identifying creative solutions to any barriers they face in accessing these services.

10. Work as part of the wider team and if appropriate carry out appropriately risk assessments including for lone working

11. Positively contribute to the wider work of the partnership and actively support good communication between all members of staff and volunteers.

12. Undertake any other duties as required and commensurate with the level of this post.

Benefits Safer London offers 28 days annual leave per year - 3 days to be taken when the office closes between Christmas and New Year.
