This guide details the configuration steps for connecting Microsoft Lync 2013 to Telappliant’s network using a Telappliant talkAssure SIP trunk. The guide makes the assumption that your Lync topology is already prepared for Enterprise Voice with a Mediation server deployed. Those preliminary steps will not be covered in this guide. The guide also makes the assumption that the person configuring the on-premise installation has a basic understanding of Microsoft Lync and Lync administration.1

Telappliant is a Microsoft Partner and participant in the Microsoft Unified

Open Interoperability program. Our infrastructure and solution has been

tested and verified as compatible with Microsoft Lync 2013.

OVERVIEWConfiguring connectivity between Telappliant and your on-premise Lync 2013 installation

involves the following high level steps:

1. Order the connectAssure SIP trunk from Telappliant.

2. Modify your firewall to allow communication between Telappliant and your Mediation server.

3. Configure the Lync topology and publish.

4. Create a new route in the Lync Server Control Panel (LSCP).

5. Create a new dial plan so outbound calls are sent to your new SIP trunk.

6. Enable Enterprise Voice for your users and configure the users with the appropriate DIDs (as

assigned to you by Telappliant).

STEP 1: ORDER YOUR SIP TRUNK FROM TELAPPLIANTSIP trunking enables organisations to utilise a single Internet connection for making and receiving

multiple concurrent VoIP telephone calls. It offers high flexibility, improved business continuity and

substantial cost savings over legacy telephone or ISDN lines.

Telappliant’s talkAssure SIP trunks offer high levels of scalability and resiliency, backed up by one

of the UK’s largest business VoIP networks with more than a decade of Internet telephony

experience. talkAssure SIP trunking has been tested and verified as compatible with Microsoft

Lync.2

To order your talkAssure SIP trunk visit www.telappliant.com/sip-trunking or call our

experienced consultants on 0345 004 4040.

STEP 2: CONFIGURE YOUR FIREWALL TO ALLOW TRAFFIC TO YOUR MEDIATION SERVERThe ports in the table below need to be allowed inbound and outbound access to your Mediation

server. Ensure the firewall rules you create are applied to the external public IP address that your

Mediation Server or Lync Front End (If the Mediation role is co-located on the same server) is

using. This will be your Network Translated Address (NAT).

Note: A stand-alone pool is the Microsoft recommendation when deploying SIP trunking.

Inbound Traffic to and from the Mediation Server

Telappliant IP address

Protocol Port(s)

SIP signalling path 178.22.8.152 TCP 5060

Media path 178.22.11.245 UDP + TCP 49,000 - 65,536

6. Give the trunk a name and ensure you select the appropriate Mediation server in the drop-down

menu. Likewise ensure the Listening Port for IP/PSTN Gateway is set to ‘5060’ and the

Associated Mediation Server to port ‘5060’. Lastly, make sure SIP Transport Protocol is set to

‘TCP’, and click Finish.

7. The topology builder will now look similar to Figure 6. The PSTN gateway will be present, along

with the SIP trunk to Telappliant.
