CONFIGURING YOUR SCS.1 CONTROLLERS WITH

TRAKOR PRO

There are 2 main areas in Traktor Pro that need to be configured in order to use

the SCS.1 controllers – audio and MIDI. MIDI is a “language” that allows a

controller to speak with a computer. Both the SCS.1m and SCS.1d are MIDI

controllers, so this step is important no matter which controller you own. If you

have an SCS.1m, however, you will also need to set up the audio in Traktor. This

is because the SCS.1m is not only a MIDI controller, but also an audio interface (or

sound card).

SETTING UP THE MIDI

(1) Download and Install the SCS1 related software. If not already installed, it can

be downloaded from the SCS.1 product page on our website.

(2) Open Traktor. Then go to File>Controller Manager.

(3) A preferences box will open. The navigation is on the left side. Make sure

you're in the Controller Manager.

3

Here, you’ll check the ports associated with SCS1 DaRouter in both the MIDI in

and MIDI out. Look at the DEVICE dropdown and you'll probably see the words

"Generic Keyboard". Click there and you'll see a "Generic MIDI" entry. Select

that, and then look to the right for the IN-Port and Out-Port. Make sure that you

ALWAYS have "From SCS.1 DaRouter" and "To SCS.1 DaRouter". It's especially

important to check this after you've imported a TSI. This being set incorrectly is

the most common problem we see with the SCS.1 controllers.

4

(4) When you’re done with that, look in the bottom right corner for the IMPORT

button.

Press it, and an explorer window will open. By default, DaRouter stores the

configuration files for the different included presets in the following directories.

In WINDOWS, the path to the file is…

Windows XP

Windows 7 / Vista

5

...Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stanton SCS.1

DaRouter (Windows XP)

...Program Data\Stanton SCS.1 DaRouter (Vista and Windows 7)

Inside this folder, you can find folders for supported applications, and inside each

application folder is the configuration file for your software. So in the case of

Traktor in Windows XP, the directory you'll find your tsi file in would be...

...Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stanton SCS.1

DaRouter\Traktor PRO Presets\SCS1 TPRO V2.03.tsi

Another way to get to your presets folder is by using the Windows START button.

If you go to Start>Programs>Stanton>SCS1 DaRouter, you'll see a folder named

"Presets". This will take you directly to the path I outlined above.

In OSX, the path to your file is…

...home\Stanton SCS1 DaRouter\

Your home directory shows up in Finder with a house icon next to it. It will not

necessarily be named "home" but rather the user that is currently logged into the

computer. In this directory, you'll find folders for all the installed presets. For

your Traktor tsi file, open...

...home\Stanton SCS1 DaRouter\Traktor PRO Presets

6

Once you've located your tsi file, select it and press OPEN to load SCS1 TPRO

v2.03.tsi into Traktor. This will open another smaller window.

Leave everything here checked and press OK. This will bring you back to the

Controller Manager window in Traktor preferences.

Under DEVICE, it might show “Generic Keyboard”. This is normal. The DEVICE setting isn’t an either/or setting, so seeing the Generic Keyboard loaded doesn’t mean that your other interfaces aren’t working. Let’s make sure that TSI you loaded is set up correctly. Click the DEVICE drop-down to select the Generic MIDI device. You should now see that it’s been re-named by the loaded TSI.

To the right of the DEVICE drop-down is the IN and OUT ports. Click on the IN port, and select FROM SCS.1 DAROUTER. Next, click on the OUT port and select TO SCS.1 DAROUTER. Now press CLOSE in the bottom right corner.

If you modify a MIDI interface in Traktor Pro and you find that the settings do not

"stick" (meaning that you have to go back and re-select the MIDI interface again),

please press the RESTART button in the SCS1 DaRouter and try it again.

Your MIDI should now be set up properly in Traktor Pro.

CONFIGURING THE AUDIO

If you have an SCS.1m, you will need to follow the steps in this section as well. If

you only have an SCS.1d, you can skip this section.

(1) Go to File>Audio Setup in Windows, or Setup>Audio Setup in OSX

(2) Once in Audio Setup, in the AUDIO DEVICE drop down, select "Stanton 1394

ASIO Driver" in Windows, or "SCS.1m (****)” in OSX.

10

(3) Now select "Output Routing" in the left hand navigation.

Use the settings below. Please note that settings for both OSX and Windows are

provided. The "(****)" in the OSX settings will reflect your particular SCS.1m

device ID.

MIXING MODE

Internal (This is the setting to choose whether you're using an external audio mixer or not. The SCS.1m isn't an

analog audio mixer, but instead an audio interface and MIDI controller. This is why we select the

"Internal" setting here).

OUTPUT MONITOR

5: Headphones Out L (WIN) / 5: SCS.1m (****) Out 4 (OSX)

6: Headphones Out R (WIN) / 6: SCS.1m (****) Out 5 (OSX) (At first glance, this looks like it would be your booth monitor, but in Traktor Pro it's actually the output

of the CUE).

OUTPUT MASTER

1: Main Out L (WIN) / 5: SCS.1m (****) Out 0 (OSX)

2: Main Out R (WIN) / 5: SCS.1m (****) Out 1 (OSX) (This is, of course, your mains output).

OUTPUT RECORD

3: Zone Out L (WIN) / 5: SCS.1m (****) Out 2 (OSX)

4: Zone Out R (WIN) / 5: SCS.1m (****) Out 3 (OSX) (This output is really kind of a wildcard. It can be your booth monitor output, a recording output, etc)

(4) Press CLOSE in the bottom right corner of the PREFERENCES window.

You should now be properly configured to run your SCS.1 controllers with Traktor Pro.
