NME: As A Synergy

NME (National Music Express) is a popular Indie-Rock/Alternative magazine, which was created by Theodore Ingham. Published weekly, it contains the latest from the music industry. The first issue was published in 1952, however originally starting as a newspaper, it slowly moved towards the magazine format in the 80’s.

NME was ‘the first British paper to include a singles chart’ and soon became the best-selling British music newspaper/magazine.

NME.COM

NME’s online format was launched in 1996, and is now the world’s largest individual music website, with well over 7 million users a month.

Both the magazine and website HQ’s are in Southwark, London.

Current editor is Mike Williams, who took over from Krissi Murison in June 2012

NME.com’s current editor is Greg Cochrane.

In 2004, NME.com was relaunched by Ben Perreau, and redeveloped the title in 2005, and the website was directed towards video, audio and the wider musical community.

In 2007 NME.COM was launched in the USA with additional staff.

Also in 2007 Luke Lewis took over as Editor of the website laying focus on video content and user engagement, introducing use ratings on website reviews.

In 2011 NME launched its first iPad app.

In October 2011 the site celebrated its 15th birthday, to mark the occasion they listed the 150 best tracks of NME.COM’s lifetime!
