These ideas of nationalism and liberalism spread to Latin
America
The American and French Revolutions had a profound impact on Latin American independence movements

The one…the only…
The only, ever - in all of history, successful slave revolt for independence
Island of Haiti/San Domingo. 1797 revolted against French rulers. Successful rule 1800-1802.Eventually captured, hanged by Napoleon’s forces
Translated from French, his name means "the awakening of all saints" or "all souls rising". His last words were to his son in France, "My boy, you will one day go back to St. Domingo; forget that France murdered your father."

Simon Bolivar
• Responsible for the independence of Venezuela, Columbia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and Bolivia.
• He is a national hero in all of these
countries! • He so admired Thomas Jefferson and his
ideas of the American Revolution that he sent his son to be schooled at “THE UNIVERSITY” (you get one guess as to what university that is….! Hint: it is NOT Virginia Tech)

Hello there! Now that you know all about the three
goals that Metternich had at the Congress of Vienna, we are going to play a
game!
![Page 23: Congress Of Vienna](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bed3b24a79597f348b464b/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
Believed national groups should have their own states
People who have a common heritage and identify belong together
Intolerant of other ethnic groups
So, which -ismdescribes allof these ideas?
![Page 24: Congress Of Vienna](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bed3b24a79597f348b464b/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
I will tell you a problem in Europe under
Napoleon, and you can tell me how Metternich
helped solve the problem!
![Page 25: Congress Of Vienna](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bed3b24a79597f348b464b/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
I, Napoleon, brought a problem
to Europe.I overthrew all the kings, and placed
my own family members on the
throne!
![Page 26: Congress Of Vienna](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bed3b24a79597f348b464b/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
The original monarchs are put back in office!
![Page 27: Congress Of Vienna](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bed3b24a79597f348b464b/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
I also made another mistake. I was very
power-hungry and my fellow French citizens had strong feelings of
Nationalism. Many surrounding countries saw this as a threat!
![Page 28: Congress Of Vienna](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bed3b24a79597f348b464b/html5/thumbnails/28.jpg)
Made countries around France that were once weaker…. Stronger!
![Page 29: Congress Of Vienna](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bed3b24a79597f348b464b/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)
Another problem of mine was that
France was looked at as a threat to other countries. They were always afraid I would go
and conquer them, and when I did, I
had ALL the power!
![Page 30: Congress Of Vienna](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bed3b24a79597f348b464b/html5/thumbnails/30.jpg)
No country in Europe could easily overpower another!
![Page 31: Congress Of Vienna](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bed3b24a79597f348b464b/html5/thumbnails/31.jpg)
One more review item:Which one of the following political
philosophies did NOT play a role in the Congress of Vienna?
a.Liberalismb. Conservatismc. Fascismd. nationalism
![Page 32: Congress Of Vienna](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022061221/54bed3b24a79597f348b464b/html5/thumbnails/32.jpg)
Thank you for playing! I hope
you had a FANTASTIC time!
