added to the roster of alumni, so I should like to congratulate them and extend a warm welcome to all those new members who are receiving this monthly newsletter for the first time. The College is now beginning to wind down for the summer: there are noticeably fewer people in for lunch and many are away undertaking research and fieldwork elsewhere, or even taking a holiday. Please take note, if you are considering a visit to the College, that the last lunch before the summer break will be served on Friday 29 July and they will restart on Tuesday 30 August. I would also remind everyone to let us know of

any changes of email or postal address. The alumni office will remain open throughout the summer vacation. A quick reminder: don’t forget the discussion coming up soon between Professor Diarmaid MacCulloch and Melvyn Bragg, mentioned in my last newsletter, on ‘The King James Bible - the end of the road?’ at 6.00pm on Thursday 7 July at the University Church of St Mary the Virgin, High Street, Oxford. To book a ticket, please see the Theology

Department website. Another date to note: St Cross will be holding a drinks reception for all College alumni from 5.30-7.30pm on Saturday 17 September. It is part of this year’s annual Oxford University Alumni Weekend, for which booking is now open and for which the theme is 'Meeting Minds – 21st

Century Challenges'. There will also be a number of short lectures in the College linked to the theme in the late afternoon before the party. We will be sending out email invitations nearer the date with more details. You may already be aware of the Oxford Careers Network (OCN), a database of former Oxford University undergraduates and postgraduates who have volunteered to share their experiences of employment. The University Careers office is keen for more alumni to register so if you would like to help the next generation of Oxford graduates please visit their website. They also run the University’s

International Internship Programme (OUIIP) which offers global internships to our current students. 90% of these internships are offered by Oxford alumni. If you think you may be able to help, please email the Careers Office. Alumni are of course entitled to life-long

support from the Careers Service, and anyone in need of careers advice can contact them for an appointment. The University Alumni summer wine-tasting reception in London is an event to look forward to. It will be held in Vintners’ Hall from 6.30 – 9.30pm on Thursday 21 July and there will be an introductory talk by Oz Clarke. More details are on the Alumni Office website. Those of you in Australia and New Zealand may be interested to know that the Vice-Chancellor is undertaking a tour there this summer. Alumni receptions have been arranged in several cities between 27 July and 6 August so that old members and their guests have a chance to meet the VC on his travels. Full information is available on the website

and online booking is available there. I am putting together this year’s Crossword magazine at present.
