Top tips for filling in the form

Please read the tips below in addition to the detailed Application guidance notes which describe Lefèvre objectives and selection criteria.

Key consideration – Why work with a French/UK school? What makes your project relevant specifically in an Anglo-French context? The bi-lateral nature of the Lefèvre programme should be reflected in your project and chosen theme(s).

Activities and visit plans must:

be joint and bilateral (UK-France) as non-collaborative activities and visits cannot be funded have the support of the heads of both schools and be relevant to the school plan be linked to the curriculum in both countries and actively involve young people in meaningful

thematic dialogue or activity, whicho includes an element of interactive discussion, debate, joint reflection…o has a clear UK-France dimension and added value

show true interaction between the young people of the UK and France have a strong wider impact on supporting improved teaching practice in both schools contribute to the overall attainment of pupils directly as well as indirectly involved in the project demonstrate a commitment to future contact and collaboration between partner schools.

Applications must be filled in as a joint endeavour by both schools. One form only is required for submission (in English or in French). Ideally one project lead will submit the application on behalf of the partnership but it is essential that both head teachers from UK and French schools signs the application form giving full support to the collaborative project between the partner schools.French schools must inform their DAREIC of their application.

British Council – Lefèvre Trust Grant application form

Your partnership project and application for funding will be assessed against 3 main objectives:

1. How your project underpins chosen areas of the curriculum in your schools/countries (the panel will be looking for evidence of the specific way in which your project is linked to curriculum objectives, whether it has cross-curricular resonance, whether it is strategically linked to the school plan and in what way)

2. How your project enhances pupil attainment and improves teaching practice (the panel will be looking for a clear demonstration of how each of the different activities proposed in the project are designed to enhance pupil’s learning and also support improved subject teaching and cross-subject teaching)

3. How you and your partner school will continue to collaborate and sustain project results into the future (the panel will be looking to see evidence of mechanisms put in place to support collaborative working as well as articulated measures to ensure sustainability of the partnership after the funding year)

You will find detailed information on these objectives in the Application guidance notes

Objective 1: Is your project embedded in the curriculum?

What areas of the curriculum or school plan does your partnership aim to support? Please explain the strategic reasons for carrying out your collaborative project.

Tips: the panel will be looking to see evidence of the ways in which your project is strategically relevant to both partner schools. Please specify the areas of the curriculum your project will support and why this is important for you both. Do you and your partner school want to achieve exactly the same thing or have you agreed to help each other to achieve different things?

Objective 2: How will your project enhance pupil’s attainment and support improved teaching practice? How will pupil’s learning be enhanced? How will you demonstrate evidence of improvement? What will you and teachers from your partner schools learn from each other? What will you do together? Please specify expected results in relation to the different areas of the curriculum involved.

Tips: the panel will be looking to see evidence of what aspects of pupil’s learning you and your partner school have chosen to enhance and how this will be achieved through the different activities and visit plans. You can include statistical data, reports or extracts from your school plan to support the specific aims of your project

How will the project enhance pupil attainment? :

In what ways will the project improve teaching practice? :

Objective 3: How you and your partner school will continue to collaborate and sustain project results into the future

Describe what mechanisms you and your partner school have in place to ensure a sustainable collaboration? What project results do you intend to continue and develop into the future? What are your planned actions?

Tips: the panel will be looking to see evidence that partner schools have a strong relationship. Think about demonstrating the strength of teacher involvement from across the curriculum. Evidence of a communication plan, strategies to overcome unexpected difficulties, to seize opportunities and navigate constraints will be important to demonstrate that both schools are committed to the project now and in the future.

Part 4: Visit plansOrganising reciprocal visits is challenging and demanding. You will need to give sufficient time to discussing and planning the visits with your partner school. In addition to content, be careful to discuss and agree date options and accommodation options well in advance. Visits to France/the UK must include at least four full days spent with your partner excluding travel. Please ensure that plans are carefully divided between time that pupils and teachers spend together in the partner school and time spent on collaborative activities outside school. All visits must relate to your project work. Lefèvre grant funding cannot be used to visit random tourist attractions. Visits to places of interest or local monuments that are perfectly in line with your project are of course acceptable. The journey time to visit your partner school is not part of the four days.

You will find very useful practical guidance for organising the logistics of visits in the School Exchange starter pack

Provide estimates against each category below as to how you will spend your grant. Eligible costs are indicated below. Please note that the maximum grant funded under Lefèvre is up to max £5000 per school. In some cases it is possible for partner schools to find additional sources of funding to add to the Lefèvre grant eg. if they wish to increase the number of pupils or the length of the visit. Your project should ideally be completed over an 18 months period. At the halfway point we will ask you to submit a one page progress report. When both visits have taken place you may then apply to receive the remaining 20% of your grant payment. You will be required to demonstrate the success of your project against the same 3 key objectives as in the initial application before this payment will be authorised.

How do you plan to monitor the impact of your partnership activities in relation to 1) embedding the curriculum 2) enhancing pupil attainment & teaching practice 3) collaboration and sustainability the partnership as a whole? Please describe how your project will collect evidence for each of the 3 objectives:

Tips : the panel will be looking for planned measures of a) pupil learning outcomes (eg. feedback forms, stories, testimonials, written work, videos, performances) and also a clear indication of planned measures for b) improved teaching practice (shared lessons, job shadowing, joint lessons, use of language assistants etc.
