This year, we held our fi rst Parent-Teacher Meeti ng earlier in Term 1 (11 March). This gave both parents and teachers the ti me to touch base and to discuss our students’ learning progress. Many parents also wrote appreciati on notes in recogniti on of our teachers’ dedicati on and unwavering eff orts in developing their children.

Townsville’s 2016 Student Council was formally introduced to the school on 24 March. Aft er the investi ture of our P4 to P6 Student Councillors, the President of the Student Council, Sreelekshmi Ajith, led the councillors in taking their pledge. This was followed by a closing address by our Principal, Mrs Liu who reiterated the role of student councillors in being role models and their service to the school and community.

Mother Tongue FortnightOur annual Mother Tongue Fortnight was held from 22 March to 1 April 2016 to promote the use of Chinese, Malay and Tamil Languages. This year’s theme on food gave students the opportunity to learn more about Singapore’s food culture through artwork and handicraft . Acti viti es included paper-cutti ng steamboat, role-playing as fruits and shadow play.

Can you spell… grotesque? This year’s English Language Week was held together with Internati onal Friendship Day. In line with the theme, Deepening Internati onal Friendships, a range of acti viti es was planned for students to spark their curiosity about the various cultures and diverse backgrounds of their friends. This was kick-started with friendly competi ti on during a week-long Spelling Bee that saw 18 students emerge champions! On 7 April, we celebrated Internati onal Friendship Day. During the Assembly programme, our friends from India, Canada, Romania and Pakistan spoke about their home country. A parent from Korea, Mr Choi, gamely danced on stage with his two daughters aft er introducing our school to Korean culture. Our P3 to P6 students had fun designing posters showcasing diff erent countries and cultures, which were then displayed around the school.
