Look down. If you look very closely, you might see an ant. Ants are everywhere. There are many more ants than people.
Ants are insects. They have six legs. An ant body has three parts: head, thorax and abdomen.
Ants are very strong and fast for their size. They live together in groups and use their strength to carry food back to their nests.

VisualisingPractice passage 2 (Lessons 23-26)
The Green Tree FrogCroak. Croak. Croak.
Have you ever heard the call of a green tree frog? It can squeak too.
When a green tree frog is in danger, it SCREAMS.
You might hear these sounds on a warm night after rain. Green tree frogs love wet weather. They drink through their skin and need to live near water to lay their eggs.
Green tree frogs are a beautiful bright green colour with a creamy-white underside. Some have white spots on their backs. Their green colouring blends into the environment and helps to protect them from predators.
Green tree frogs are great climbers. They have strong legs, webbed fingers and toes, and sticky pads on their feet. They can cling to most surfaces, even glass.
Green tree frogs use their sticky tongues to catch their favourite food – bugs! Green tree frogs hunt for food at night. During the day, they sleep in cool, dark places.

Tyrannosaurus RexTyrannosaurus means ‘tyrant lizard’. Tyrannosaurus rex lived 65 million years ago, when the earth looked very different to our planet today. Dinosaurs lived on Earth for more than 150 million years but not all at the same time. Stegosaurus had been extinct for millions of years before T-Rex appeared. Tyrannosaurus shared its environment with many other dinosaurs, including triceratops and ankylosaurus.

Asking questionsPractice passage 2 (Lessons 27-32)
AntarcticaAntarctica is the southernmost place on Earth. It is almost double the size of Australia and is much, much colder.
Antarctica is the windiest and driest continent on the planet. It is a desert because it receives very little rain. Antarctica is surrounded by deep oceans and is covered in thick ice all year round. Icebergs of di$erent shapes and sizes float in the seawater. Antarctica has many volcanoes.
It is too cold for people to make their homes in Antarctica, but many scientists work there to learn more about this icy desert. They study the weather, landscape and wildlife.
Some animals and plants are able to survive the freezing temperatures. Penguins and seals have thick, waterproof coats and extra layers of fat under their skin to protect them from the cold.
We must preserve and protect this beautiful, remote wilderness.
